Etienne Krug

Dr. Krug is Director of the Department for Social Determinants of Health at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He leads global efforts to prevent violence and injuries, to address social determinants of health and promote healthy ageing. He oversees the development of intergovernmental resolutions and global reports, the implementation of multi-country development projects, and advocacy campaigns. He Chairs the International Organizing Committee for World Conferences on Injury Prevention, the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and Co-Chairs the Executive Committee of the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals. Before joining WHO, Dr. Krug worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, USA, with Médecins sans Frontières and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Dr. Krug holds a degree as Medical Doctor from the University of Louvain in Brussels, Belgium and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Harvard University and has received many awards.

Yuka Sumi

Medical Officer, Ageing and Health, Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child & Adolescent Health and Ageing (MCA), UHC life course, World Health Organization

Yuka Sumi holds an MD from Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, a PhD from Osaka University, Japan, and MPH from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She is a certified specialist of Acute and Critical Care Medicine. She has worked as an associate professor in the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and in the Faculty of Gerontology in Juntendo University. In 2016, she joined the Healthcare New Frontier Promotion Headquarters Office in Kanagawa Prefectural Government in Japan as a Global Health Senior Project Leader.

Since December 2016, she is responsible for WHO Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) approach and involved in the publication of ICOPE guidelines in 2017, and led the development of ICOPE package of tools such as ICOPE handbook and digital app: guidance for person-centred assessment and pathways in primary care in 2019. She is a secretariat of WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy ageing (CCHA)  to contribute to the development of standards and guidelines on the clinical aspects of Healthy Ageing. Under CCHA, she coordinates activities such as ICOPE implementation pilot programme, and published ‘ICOPE implementation pilot programme ready-phase report’ in 2022 to support country implementation. She is responsible for clinical guideline development on chronic low back pain for adults. For COVID-19 response, she has been a focal person on care for older people, contributing to several COVID technical guidance.  

Yosuke Kita

Veli-Mikko Niemi

Veli-Mikko Niemi was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in August 2022. Previously he worked as Director General of the Department for Communities and Functional Capacity and the Department for Promotion of Welfare and Health. When acting as Director of the International Affairs Unit he was responsible for the Ministry´s coordination of the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (2019). Niemi worked as Director of Food Safety at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 2007–2014 and as Deputy Director General in 2002–2007. Before that, he held various expert positions at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the European Commission. Niemi holds the degree of Licentiate of Veterinary Medicine.

Tracy Laabs

Dr. Tracy Laabs is the Chief Development Officer at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering in Geneva, Switzerland. In this role, she leads the Center’s development strategy, partnerships and fundraising efforts to accelerate the translation of science and technology to the patient. She assumed this role in Spring of 2020 after five years as the Founding Deputy Director of the Center where she was instrumental in growing and evolving the Center into an international leader in neurotechnology translation. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Women’s Brain Project, an international organization advocating for women’s brain and mental health, and is a member of a Thrive with Mentoring community in Western Switzerland.

Dr. Laabs has over eighteen years of combined professional and research experience in multiple life science disciplines including neuroscience, neurotechnology, molecular biology, physiology, human performance, and regenerative medicine. Prior to joining the Wyss Center, she was a Senior Scientist at Strategic Analysis, Inc. where she provided technical expertise and scientific program management support on high risk, multidisciplinary programs at the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Defense Sciences (DSO) and Biological Technologies offices (BTO).

Dr. Laabs has extensive research experience as well as experience in strategic planning, development and management of high risk/high reward multidisciplinary programs and coordinating interdisciplinary teams of academic and industrial scientists in the development of technologies. She enjoys mentoring young scientists and entrepreneurs, writing and presenting to broad audiences about neuroscience and neurotechnology translation. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge (UK) and a BS in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (US).

Thiago Hérick de Sá

Dr. Thiago Hérick de Sá holds a degree in Sports Science, and a Masters and PhD in Public Health from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He started his career as a physical educator, working with older people at hospitals, primary care settings and households in Brazil. Since 2010, Thiago has worked as a researcher in Brazil and in the UK, with a track record of scientific publications in high-impact journals.

Thiago joined WHO in 2017 to support the work around urban, transport and health, including the development of WHO’s Urban Health Initiative (ongoing) and WHO’s Urban Health Research Agenda (2022). He also led the development of several technical resources such as the Sourcebook on Integrating Health in Urban and Territorial Planning (2020) and the adaptation for global use of the HEAT tool (2021).

In 2022, Thiago joined the Department of Social Determinants of Health to lead the work on Age-friendly Environments, including the Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities.

Sue Peschin

Sue Peschin, MHS, is President & CEO of the Alliance for Aging Research, the leading nonprofit organization accelerating the pace of scientific discoveries to improve the experience of aging and health. Ms. Peschin has guided efforts to increase federal investment in aging research; raise awareness of geriatric cardiovascular diseases; develop Talk NERDY to Me, a research advisory network of more than 120 older adult patients and family caregivers; advocate for patient affordability and equity-based value frameworks; and improve Medicare treatment access. Ms. Peschin serves on the Boards of: Heart Valve Voice U.S.; the National Health Council; the Committee for Advancement of Respite Research; and the Preparedness and Treatment Equity Coalition; as well as on the Science Advisory Board for the UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation; the USP Council of the Convention; and on the UMD Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center Community Advisory Board.

Stephen Donnelly

Stephen Donnelly TD is the Minister for Health. He was appointed to this role in June 2020.
He has been a TD for the Wicklow constituency since the 2011 general election.

Stephen has previously worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Co., specialising in transformational change for large public and private sector organisations.

He has worked across many sectors, including private equity, retail, public infrastructure, healthcare, education, international development, and the voluntary and social sectors.

At the Harvard Kennedy School he studied international development, with a focus on rebuilding economies and protecting and strengthening vulnerable populations.

Stefano Costanzo

Stefan Oelrich

Stefan Oelrich has been a member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and head of the Pharmaceuticals Division, headquartered in Berlin, Germany, since November 1, 2018. He is also responsible for the region Europe/Middle East.

Oelrich was born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on June 1, 1968. After graduating from high school in Paris, France, he joined Bayer AG as a commercial trainee in 1989 and qualified as a commercial assistant in 1991. Over the next 20 years, he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in the health care business in Latin America, Europe and the United States. In 1998, after working in Argentina and Uruguay, Oelrich transferred to headquarters in Leverkusen for two years before assuming responsibility for Pharmaceuticals in Belgium. Between 2003 and 2005, he was Vice President of Marketing at Pharmaceuticals in the United States. He was subsequently appointed President of Healthcare and Diagnostics in France. In 2006, Oelrich returned to the United States as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Women’s Healthcare.

In 2011, he joined Sanofi as General Manager in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In 2015, Oelrich became head of Sanofi’s Diabetes and Cardiovascular business unit in Europe. At the same time, he served as Sanofi Europe Coordinator. In 2016, Oelrich became head of Sanofi’s global diabetes franchise. A year later, he was appointed Executive Vice President Diabetes & Cardiovascular on the Executive Committee of Sanofi.

Since 2016, Oelrich has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the Berlin Institute of Health.

Oelrich is a German citizen. He is married and has two children.

Siveem al Nashar

Shalini Desai

Dr. Shalini Desai is a Medical Officer within the Immunization, Vaccines and Biologics Department at the World Health Organization.

Dr. Desai has a background in pediatric infectious diseases and public health.  She has worked in the field of immunizations for many years nationally and globally.  Her specific interests are related to using evidence to inform policy and vaccine program implementation in populations such as older persons.  She has published in peer review journals and continues to work to have impact in these areas.

Rune Hørby

Rune Hørby is Vaccines Policy Director for Mid-Europe at MSD. His role is to lead the Vaccines Policy Strategy across 32 European countries to create better access to vaccination for all age groups across Europe.

Prior to joining MSD 6 years ago, Rune worked in different positions and locations within the Danish Foreign Service, including most recently as the Director of the Danish foreign investment promotion agency, Invest in Denmark, in North America. Through his work, he’s developed expertise in political decision-making and the drivers of healthcare prioritization in that context.

Rune graduated from University of Copenhagen and holds a Master of Law degree.

Roxana Widmer-Iliescu

Senior Coordinator Digital Inclusion International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

Ms Widmer-Iliescu has 25 years of experience and contribution to the overarching goal of Digital Inclusion through her work in the Development Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Ms Widmer-Iliescu advises ITU members and stakeholders on establishing policies and executing strategies to meet all people's needs in using information and communication technologies (ICTs), especially for those in vulnerable situations. In response to the two megatrends of the ageing population and technology rise and in line with the engagements of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030, Ms Widmer-Iliescu also uses her holistic expertise to address the topic of ageing in a digital world to support policy and decision-makers in building digitally inclusive and age-friendly environments for present and future generations.

Finally, Ms Widmer-Iliescu advocates and promotes ICTs/digital accessibility as the key enabler to ensure active participation in the digital society and economy of everyone and thus ensure that no one is left behind in the digital age.

Ritu Sadana

Dr Ritu Sadana is Head of the WHO Secretariat for the independent Council on the Economics of Health for All,  that aims to reorient economic and financial policy to increase public and private investments for health in multiple sectors.  She is also Head of WHO’s Ageing and Health Unit, where she led the research and writing of WHO’s Decade of Healthy Ageing: baseline report, coordinated the development of the first WHO Global Strategy on Ageing and Health including conceiving the objective towards the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing and co-authored the WHO World Report on Ageing and Health.  She is Principle Investigator of WHO’s new area of work to Extend the Benefits of Healthy Ageing across the Life Course, involving policy makers, researchers and civil society in health, education, labor and social protection.  Working with public and private sectors, Dr Sadana has championed health equity in low, middle- and high-income countries, earned her Doctor of Science degree from Harvard University and Master of Science degree from UCLA, and has expertise in economics, epidemiology, demography and health policy. She has over 200 scientific and policy publications.

Richard Lui

Richard Lui’s 30-year career sits at the intersection of politics, journalism, technology, filmmaking, publishing, and finance. Currently he is news anchor for MSNBC and NBC News and formerly at CNN Worldwide. In 2007, he became the first Asian American male to anchor a daily national news broadcast in America.

Richard Jackson

Richard Jackson is an internationally recognized authority on global aging and retirement policy. He is president of the Global Aging Institute (GAI), a nonprofit research and educational organization he founded in 2014 that is dedicated to improving understanding of the economic, social, and geopolitical challenges created by demographic change, and especially population aging, in the United States and around the world. Richard is the author or co-author of numerous policy studies, has spoken on aging-related issues at dozens of conferences in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States, and is widely quoted in the international media. He holds a B.A. from SUNY at Albany and a Ph.D. from Yale University.

Richard Eisenberg

Richard Eisenberg is an "unretired" freelance writer, editor and podcaster. He currently writes "The View From Unretirement" column for MarketWatch; writes for Next Avenue, the PBS site for people 50+; and co-hosts the Friends Talk Money podcast. Previously, he was Managing Editor and Money and Work channels Editor at Next Avenue; Executive Editor of Money; and Front Page Finance Editor of Yahoo! He is author of "How to Avoid a Midlife Financial Crisis" and "The Money Book of Personal Finance." He helped lead the Age Boom Academy in

2022 and mentored at the Geronotological Society of America Journalists in Aging program. He received Coming of Age's 2022 Impact Award for Leadership in Positive Aging.

Rich Nuzum

Rich Nuzum is Executive Director, Investments and Global Chief Investment Strategist. Rich is also the Executive Sponsor for Mercer’s Pride Business Resource Network. Before this role, Rich was President of Mercer’s Investments & Retirement business for five years and a member of Mercer’s Executive Leadership Team.

Rich is responsible for Mercer’s delivery of investment consulting, open architecture manager-of-managers investment management, and retirement actuarial consulting services and solutions globally. During the past 25 years, Rich has provided investment advice to clients in more than 20 countries, including many of the world’s largest institutional investors.

Rich holds an MBA (with high honors) in analytic finance and accounting from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree (with honors) in mathematical sciences and mathematical economic analysis from Rice University in Houston, Texas. Rich also did graduate work in international economics at Tokyo University. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute.

Ramsey Alwin

Ramsey Alwin is the president and CEO of the National Council on Aging (NCOA). She holds a Bachelors degree from Simmons University and an MBA from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business. At NCOA, Ramsey leads a nationwide movement to ensure equitable aging for every American. A seasoned thought leader and policy advocate, Alwin has changed the way people think about older adult poverty and economic security. She designed a new measure of economic security for older adults that better accounts for out-of-pocket health costs and worked to introduce the Measuring American Poverty Act in Congress to redefine the federal poverty measure for the older population. Thanks to Alwin’s efforts, the U.S. Census Bureau formally implemented the Supplemental Poverty Measure nationwide, virtually doubling the elder poverty count and better demonstrating true needs among this population.

Pol Vandenbroucke

Dr. Vandenbroucke’s career has been dedicated to Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Marketing in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Before his current position, he was responsible for Medical Strategy for Pfizer Inc. and for Medical Affairs of Pfizer’s Essential Health portfolio in North America.

He previously also led the Clinical Development of all Pfizer compounds in Asia, Central/Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa-Middle East and of Pfizer’s Established Products globally.

He was also responsible for developing compounds specifically for diseases of the developing world, such as malaria and river blindness.

Dr. Vandenbroucke serves on the Board of AFAR and BIO Ventures for Global Health. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics, University of the Witwatersrand-Johannesburg, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Keck Graduate Institute, Claremont, CA. He also is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Medicine of the United Kingdom.

A frequent speaker on health, aging, diversity, and policy issues, he is also a Visiting Senior Lecturer at King’s College and the Module Coordinator for Medical Affairs in the Medicines Development Certificate Program at IFAPP Academy and King’s College London.

Philip Hogan

Philip is a CEO and founder of Origin Care Group  an age/ med tech company.  Origin Care Group developed award winning ACORN Age Friendly smart tablet and solutions to support organisations digitally engage patients and clients.

With over 26+ years of global technology expertise Philip was co-founder and CCO of Openet, a global telecommunications software provider and one of Ireland’s largest software companies. He established Openet as a global leader in telecommunication software. Now focussing his skills on the Age tech market to develop patient centric digital health and wellbeing solutions.

Philip holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer applications from DCU. He also holds a number of senior Board Advisor positions with Software and Telecommunications, Information systems and Health Care solution companies.

Paula Narváez Ojeda

H.E. Ms. Paula Narváez Ojeda is the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations. She presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres on 8 June 2022. Before this latest appointment, Ms. Narváez was the Officer-in-Charge at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) in Guatemala, from February to May 2022. She also served as Socio-Political Adviser at the UN-Women Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, from October 2021 to February 2022, and Regional Adviser for Governance and Political Participation in the same office, from 2018 to 2020. Between 2016 and 2018, Ambassador Narváez was Minister Secretary General of Government, and she served as a Presidential Adviser from 2014 to 2016. From 2012 until 2014, she was a Latin America and Caribbean Section Program Specialist at UN-Women, based in New York. Following the eruption of the Chaitén Volcano in Chile in May 2008, Ambassador Narváez served as the delegate of then-President Michelle Bachelet to the Chaitén Volcano Emergency, from 2008 to 2009. She has also held a number of other Government positions. Orlaith Carmody

Orlaith Carmody is a communications consultant and executive coach, and Principal Business Advisor to Age Friendly Ireland. She has delivered key notes, coaching and training for many years, nationally and internationally, and has facilitated high level workshops and strategy days.

Orlaith is the author of  Perform As A Leader, which offers a complete toolkit to anyone looking to develop their front line communication skills – pitching, presenting, chairing, negotiating, performing on the media or coaching and leading teams.

Following an early career as a broadcast journalist with Irish National station RTÉ, Orlaith became a director of a number of SMEs in media and recruitment, and served on the board of RTÉ from 2010 to 2015. She currently serves on the Compliance Committee of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Neil Johnson

Neil Johnson is Chief Executive of Croí, the Irish Heart & Stroke Charity and the Irish National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health. He is a founder and Executive Director of the Global Heart Hub, the international alliance of heart patient organisations. The Global Heart Hub aims to provide a voice for those living with or affected cardiovascular disease.

He has over 30 years leadership, management and development experience in the ‘not-for-profit’ sector in the field of cardiovascular health – working across service development; prevention, rehabilitation; education and training; research; patient engagement and patient advocacy. He is a founder of Ireland’s first Heart & Stroke Centre dedicated to cardiovascular health and wellbeing which is recognised by the European Society of Cardiology as a European Centre of Excellence in CVD prevention.

He is an Honorary Clinical Fellow of the School of Medicine at the National University of Ireland, Galway and a Fellow of the National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health. He holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from the NUI, Galway.

My Linh Ka

My Linh Kha is Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager, JAPAC. She was appointed as Vice President & General Manager, Japan Asia-Pacific (JAPAC) in November 2020. Until July 2021, she was also Vice President and General Manager of Amgen China. Prior to returning to Amgen Australia as the General Manager in 2016, My Linh spent more than two years as Executive Director Marketing for Amgen’s Intercontinental Region (Latin America, Canada, Turkey, Middle East & Africa).

Ms. Kha has had more than 20 years of broad international experience in both emerging and mature markets in the biopharmaceutical industry. Ms. Kha’s expertise includes business start-ups, turn around and transformations. She has deep knowledge of brand and organization strategy, healthcare regulatory policy and product pricing. She has a track record of delivering performances beating market expectations.

Ms. Kha began her career with Amgen in early 2011 when she joined Amgen Australia as the Business Unit Director for General Medicine, with responsibility for the Bone, Nephrology and Cardiology therapeutic areas.

Before joining Amgen, Ms. Kha spent more than a decade at Merck (MSD) taking various leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including Marketing Lead (New Zealand), Managing Director (Vietnam), and Head of Commercial Operations (Korea).

Ms. Kha’s career started in the building and construction industry where she worked in business development and management consulting.
Ms. Kha holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Law degree from University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Mikiro Suga

Mikiro Suga was appointed the Head of Health and Welfare at the Japan External Trade Organization’s New York Office in November 2019. JETRO is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. Mikiro is conducting research on health care system in U.S. He is committed to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations on healthcare and promoting mutual understanding.

Since joining the Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare Japan in 2006, Mikiro has served in several positions including the Health Policy Bureau, the Insurance Bureau and the Minister’s Secretariat. He was involved in drafting bills and the Comprehensive Drug Reinforcement Strategy and setting a target of the volume share of generic drugs to at least 80%. He will return to the MHLW in 2023 and be involved in developing policies in Japan.

Michael Wright

Michael Wright opened Home Instead's 8th Irish office in Thurles, Co. Tipperary in 2008 and managed this to 2019 when he joined Home Instead Ireland's National Office as Director of Public Affairs. In this role Michael developed Home Instead's strategy in response to Government policy to introduce home care regulation and a statutory right to home care for Irish citizens.

Since 2021 Michael is Director of Corporate Operations for Home Instead Ireland and has responsibility for the operations of 20 Home Instead offices in Ireland. Home Instead is Ireland’s largest private home care company, delivering home support services publicly funded by the Irish Health Service (Health Service Executive) and funded privately by individuals and their families. Home Instead Ireland is part of a global network of Home Instead companies operating in a dozen countries around the globe.

Matthew Blake

Matthew Blake holds completed his undergraduate studies in international affairs, Boston College, Universite Robert Schuman, Institut Etudes Politiques (IEP); Master’s in Public Administration, Harvard University, John F. Matteo Cesari

Matteo Cesari, MD, PhD, is a Scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO; Geneva, Switzerland) in the field of Geriatrics and Gerontology. He is Professor of Geriatrics on leave at the University of Milan (Milan, Italy).

His research activities have always been focused on the frailty condition and strategies aimed at preventing the disabling cascade. In particular, Dr. Cesari’s activities at the WHO are primarily aimed at the development of policies to promote healthy ageing and improve care services for older persons.

Dr. Cesari has published more than 600 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and his h-index is 85. He is a coordinator of the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) Special Interest Group on “Frailty and resilience in older persons”, and member of the EuGMS Academic Board.

Massimo Visentin

Massimo Visentin is a senior executive in Pfizer whose current role is President, Chief Commercial Office in the International Developed Markets, which includes Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Korea.  He has held positions of increasing responsibility during his 19 years in the pharmaceutical industry. His expertise is varied and includes leading the mid-size European countries such as Greece, Portugal and Ireland amongst others.  Prior to that he was General Manager of Pfizer in Italy,  has led the Specialty business in Greece following his tenure in the finance team. He has lived in Amsterdam, Paris and Greece as well as his native Italy.  Massimo  is a keen runner and  loves to spend time with his daughter.

Mary Bussell

Dr Bussell’s career has led to a comprehensive knowledge of the health ecosystem with expertise in building and managing relationships with key stakeholders locally, nationally and globally. As a health professional committed to public health, Dr Bussell examines the burden of diseases and the need for transformative change to provide patient-centric care through all stages of life. She led Economist Impact’s global research on integrated care pathways in bone health and researched and authored The Economist Intelligence Unit’s comparative analysis of lung cancer policies in Europe. Prof. Mario Barbagallo, MD, PhD, is Full Professor of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics; Director of the Department of Medicine, University Hospital of Palermo; Director of the Post-graduate program in Geriatrics;

President of IAGG-ER (International association of Geriatrics-European Region).

Member of the Superior Council of the Italian Minister of Health.

He is included in the list of the Top Italian Scientists (www.topitalianscientists.org).

He previously worked in Parma and in Rome where he obtained the PhD, and in the US (at the Cornell University Medical Center, NY, NY, USA, and as a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA).

He is an expert of clinical, social and biological problems related aging, and to the prevention and treatment of aging-related diseases.

He is member of numerous national and international scientific societies and appreciated speaker in Italy and abroad. Author of over 500 publications in scientific journals.

Keizo Takemi

Keizo Takemi is a member of the House of Councillors of the Japanese Parliament, or Diet, where he belongs to the Liberal Democratic Party. He has been a senior fellow with the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) since 2007, and was a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health from November 2007 to June 2009. Takemi has been involved in various global initiatives including the Commission on Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health, Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA), WHO expert working group on R&D Financing, and the international organizing committee of the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC). He has also been serving as the chair of the parliamentary caucus on Stop TB Partnership and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD).

In 2016, he was appointed to the UN High Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth, and in 2018, to the UHC Financing Advisory Committee for the G20 2019. He has served as Senior Vice Minister for Health, Labour and Welfare, and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, where he led the initiative to establish the UN Trust Fund for Human Security. Within the LDP, he is Chairperson of the Special Committee on Global Health Strategy of the LDP Policy Research Council, Acting Chairperson of Headquarters for Novel Coronavirus, Acting Chairperson of Project Team for COVID-19 Vaccines and Chairperson of Subcommittee on Governance for Infectious Diseases. In recognition of his contributions to the field over the past decade, he was appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in July 2019.

Kassim Javaid

Dr Javaid is an adult rheumatologist and Associate Professor in metabolic bone disease at the University of Oxford. He specializes in common and rare metabolic bone diseases. He is the clinical lead for Oxford Fracture Prevention Service, and the national Fracture Liaison Service Audit for England and Wales and co-chairs the Capture the Fracture programme. Hi is the clinical lead for the Oxford Rare bone disease service for adults and the Musculoskeletal Genomic Clinical Interpretation partnership. His research interests include the epidemiology of musculoskeletal diseases with a focus on rare diseases of the bone, vitamin D and secondary fracture prevention.

She is the Jamaica Lead for a flagship project with the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative Healthcare System Preparedness Focus Area focused on timely detection of Alzheimer’s disease using digital cognitive assessment and blood biomarkers. Hidenori Arai

Hidenori Arai (MD., PhD) is the President of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG), Japan since 2019. He is also the President of the Japan Gerontological Society, the Vice President of the Japan Geriatrics Society, the President of the Japanese Association on Sarcopenia and Frailty and the Vice President of the Japan Atherosclerosis Society. Additionally, he is the President of Asian Academy of Medicine for Ageing, and the Vice President of Asian Association of Frailty and Sarcopenia. He is a member of the Science Council of Japan since Oct. 2020. After graduating from Kyoto University School of Medicine in 1984 and from Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in 1991, Dr. Arai spent most of his career in the Department of Geriatric Medicine, Kyoto University. Then he became Professor of the Department of Human Health Science, Kyoto University School of Medicine in 2009 and since then he has been working on frailty and sarcopenia. After the work in the Department of Human Health Science, Kyoto University School of Medicine, he moved to NCGG as the Deputy Director in 2015. He then became the Director of NCGG in 2018 and the President of NCGG in 2019. He is the co-chair of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia and his primary research focus is frailty and sarcopenia.

Haleh Nazeri

Finbarr Martin

Finbarr Martin was a consultant geriatrician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS hospitals in London for 32 years, now clinically retired (but back vaccinating). He helped develop and evaluate a broad range of acute and community clinical services for older people in urgent and post-acute care, patients having surgery, and in care homes.  As emeritus Professor of Medical Gerontology at King’s College London, Martin researches geriatric syndromes including falls, fracture prevention, delirium and muscle function, and the applications of CGA across clinical areas.  Martin is a member of the WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing (2016- ), the past-president of the European Geriatric Medicine Society from 2020-2021, and was president of the British Geriatrics Society from 2010-12, and non-executive director of National Institute of Care and Health Excellence, England (NICE) from 2013-2016.  He led the England Department of Health falls and fractures toolkit and was clinical lead (2012-2018) for the NHS funded national Falls and Fragility Fractures Audit programme, which incorporates the National Hip Fracture Database.

Eileen Rocard

Eileen Rocard works as a Junior Health Analyst in the Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs at the OECD. She is an economist with expertise in ageing and long-term care, and she authored/co-authored 20+ OECD reports, including on the long-term care workforce. She holds a master’s degree in health economics of Paris Dauphine University, where she now teaches a course on Welfare systems.

Deepali Patel

Deepali Patel joined the Fund with more than 15 years of experience in global health policy in the US, Europe, Central America and Asia.  Most recently, she spent seven years serving as a Senior Policy Officer at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she led the development of policies and strategies to accelerate the development, distribution, and uptake of high-impact vaccines in low and middle income countries.  During that time, Deepali oversaw the successful approval of Gavi’s $2billion malaria vaccine investment.  She previously spent nine years at the national Academy of Medicine in the US, developing health policy and research recommendations for national and global stakeholders.  She is a 2009 Fulbright Scholar and a graduate of the 2017 Advanced Course in Vaccinology.  Deepali received an MPH from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.

Cynthia Stuen, PhD

Cynthia Stuen is the Main  Representative to the United Nations on behalf of the International Federation on Ageing and is Chair of the NGO Committee on Ageing/NY.  Dr. Stuen is active in advocacy for the protection of the human rights of older persons and monitoring of inclusion of older persons in the UN’s Agenda 2030 and support of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing.

Serving in various capacities at Lighthouse International during her 24 year tenure.  She was Director of its National Center for Vision and Aging developing public and professional education on age-related vision and  hearing  loss for older persons. Her last position was as Senior Vice President, Chief Professional Affairs Officer that involved advocating for policies to support older sensory impaired persons at the national, state and local level while also maintaining involvement and education in international environments to preserve sight and prevent excess disability resulting from vision and other sensory impairments.

Her numerous publications, presentations and research endeavors cover topics of age-related sensory loss, evidence-based electronic records, access to environments for older adults with impaired vision and contributions older persons make to society.

Dr. Stuen is a past Chair of the American Society on Aging (ASA) She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and also the NY Academy of Medicine.  Her entire professional career has been in the field of aging.

Dr. Stuen received her Bachelor’s Degree from Valparaiso University, her Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago and her doctorate from Columbia University School of Social Work.

Craig Ritchie

Affiliation: Chair of the Psychiatry of Ageing at the University of Edinburgh and Founder of Brain Health Scotland

 Biography: Prof Craig Ritchie is the Professor of the Psychiatry of Ageing at the University of Edinburgh, having moved from his role as Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Mental Health at Imperial College London in October 2014. He completed his PhD at UCL through an MRC Health Services Research Fellowship and was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Old Age Psychiatry at Imperial College London in 2007. He has also served as R&D Director at West London Mental Health Trust from 2010-14 and Deputy Director of the London Northwest NIHR Clinical Research Network. In 2014 he was appointed as Chair in Psychiatry of Ageing at the University of Edinburgh. In 2015 he established the Centre for Dementia Prevention and that year took on the academic leadership role of the EPAD (European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Dementia) Programme. Between 2017 and 2022 he was the elected Chair of the Scottish Dementia Research Consortium and in 2020 he founded and was the inaugural Director of Brain Health Scotland. He has published over 350 academic papers, conference abstracts and book chapters and secured approximately €100M of grant funding in his career to date.

His main research interest is the interface between clinical trials and translational epidemiology (cohort studies) with a drive to develop the infrastructures at a national level (in Scotland) to prepare health systems and prosecute rapid ‘research into practice’ programmes. He is a pioneer and leading advocate for the Brain Health Movement that works across the life course from primary to secondary prevention of late-stage neurodegenerative disease. This involved working at a public health and policy level as well as developing and implementing Brain Health Clinics across Scotland following ‘The Scottish Model for Brain Health Services’. This work has led Scotland to being one of the Flagship Countries in the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative for Health Care Readiness.

She is also responsible for the Age-Friendly Programme at DCU, where she leads the ongoing development of a creative, meaningful, and innovative community of practice.

Christine has an extensive background in working with a range of agencies and networks engaged in enhancing the well-being of older adults. She was the former CEO of Ireland’s Older Women’s Network, a global network focused on gender and ageing. She works closely with policy and decision-makers. Christine is a respected member of the AGE Platform and the Covenant on Demographic Change in Europe and is a passionate advocate for older people promoting age inclusivity, intergenerational and lifelong learning, challenging ageism and working to change the narrative on ageing.

Christine is a member of the Greenleaf Centre for Servant Leadership and was educated at the National College of Ireland, Trinity College and DCU and is currently concluding a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Leadership.

Amal Abou Rafeh

Amal Abou Rafeh is the Chief of the Programme on Ageing Section at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York. She serves on the Secretariat of the General Assembly's Working Group for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons. Amal is a member of the Steering Group of the Titchfield City Group on Ageing-related Statistics and Age-disaggregated Data.

Amal joined the United Nations in 2001, working in the areas of social policy, sustainable development and demography, and served on the Secretariats of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (2002) and the High-level Meeting on Youth (2011). She held positions in Beirut and New York. Before joining the United Nations, Amal lectured on analysis of social and demographic data.

Adrita Bhattacharya-Craven, is the Research Director of Health and Ageing at the Geneva Association, a leading global think tank dedicated to the insurance industry. Her work at the GA focuses on the strategic and long-term research priorities of health and life insurers which is undertaken in collaboration with CEOs and senior executives of GA member companies, academic institutions as well as global organisations. Her work reflects the growing convergence of life and health insurance, against the backdrop of an emerging risk landscape brought about by new disease patterns, ageing, technology and other market disruptors that are central considerations for improving consumer access to risk protection and business sustainability. Belelieu began his career in Washington DC at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and since then has held a series of positions at the intersection of financial services, strategy and public policy. Alana Officer

Alana Officer is the Unit Head for Demographic Change and Healthy Ageing at the World Health Organization. She coordinates the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) and overseers WHO’s work on Age-friendly physical and social environments including the Global Campaign to Combat Ageism and the Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities.

Thomas Hach

Dr. Steven R. Smith is Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of AdventHealth guiding the research vision for AdventHealth across the system. AdventHealth is a multi-state hospital system with 50 hospital campuses, more than 1,200 care sites and over 80,000 team members. Dr. Smith's oversight includes all research operations, services and oversight for the nine states in which we serve. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas in 1988. Smith's scientific work bridges the gap between cell/molecular biology and clinical care. Translational science involves translating discoveries in the basic sciences to the clinic and importantly informing basic science with clinical phenotyping, biospecimens and modern molecular methods. Dr. Smith's research is currently funded by the NIH with two RO1 Grants, industry and philanthropic support. In his research career, Dr. Smith has published more than 200 peer- reviewed scientific manuscripts, reviews and chapters.

Mark Doherty

Mark Doherty graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1990, and joined GSK in 2011. In between, he has worked in biotech, public health institutes and universities in the US, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Brazil, Ethiopia and India, as well as consulting for organizations such as BARDA, WHO, MRC, Wellcome Trust and the Gates Foundation. He has held – and continues to hold - multiple professorships and editorial positions. Throughout this career, his work has focused on immune activation, and biomarkers which show the development of immune processes, and he continues to work and publish in this area. However, that has been coupled with a commitment to turning basic immunological insights into better public health, which has been reflected in work on clinical trials, product launches and public health education.

Stephen Klasko

He has been a president, a dean, a CEO, an obstetrician, and now pursues his vision for the creative re-construction of American health care by bridging traditional academic centers with entrepreneurs and innovators. His passion is to use technology to close the gaps of health disparities and offer everyone the promise of health assurance.

At the same time, Dr. Klasko is a lifelong DJ, a disc jockey who believes that the message in the music can give us the courage to tackle a broken, fragmented, unfriendly, expensive and inequitable health care system.

As president of Thomas Jefferson University and CEO of Jefferson Health from 2013-2021, he led one of the nation’s fastest growing academic health institutions based on his vision of re-imagining health care and higher education.

Simon Bottery

The King’s Fund is an independent charity that works to improve health and care in England. Simon leads The King’s Fund’s work on adult social care, including writing its annual summary of the state of the sector, ‘Social Care 360’.

Before joining The King’s Fund in September 2017, Simon spent almost 10 years as Director of Policy at the older people’s charity Independent Age, researching and campaigning on issues including care home quality, unmet needs for care, social care funding and the social care workforce.

Simon has wide experience in policy, communications and journalism, including as Director of Communications at Citizens Advice. He has also worked for the development charity ActionAid, in the commercial sector for Guinness and in BBC local radio. He is a trustee of the learning disability charity ActionSpace.

Regina Regenass

Regina has worked in the financial industry for over 30 years – primarily in Human Resources where she was responsible for delivering global strategies, employee development trainings and HR processes for front, logistics, IT and back office units. During the recent big financial crisis she co-launched the independent corporate Ombudsman Office for UBS employees in Switzerland.

After joining WDA in 2014, she founded the WDA demography network for big corporates as well as small and midcap enterprises. More than 25 companies already joined and follow the demography road map by tackling their specific demographic challenges on „How to create the future of work?“

At WDA Regina is focussing on the demographic changes that will especially influence our “Work Life”. She provides a co-creative platform by facilitating and promoting demography workshops engaging and bringing together diverse representatives from academia, business leaders and human resources experts. The workshop results go beyond „best practice exchanges“: new and innovative rapid prototyping methods are applied for quick analysis and recommendations. The workshop participants – especially the employers - benefit from a fresh unbiased spirit, interactive exchanges and open discussions.

“Successful employers will have to rethink their strategies along the demographic shifts and requirements of all working generations. In future: Intergenerational work force power will dramatically enhance innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The positive aspects of living and working in an age of longevity need to be identified and unlocked for the benefits of both: economy and society. “

Regina studied Economics & Banking (Commercial High School Diploma) and Human Resources Management in Switzerland. Since 2011 she is Board Member of the Swiss HR Association (more than 6’000 affiliated members and companies). The International Ombudsman Association also accredits her as Mediator.

The WDA Forum was founded in 2002 and acts as platform and Think Tank for a worldwide coordination of efforts and activities related to demographic change and ageing.

Mike Mansfield

Mike is the CEO of ProAge. He is a seasoned thought leader on the topics of longevity, age-inclusion and multigenerational workplaces.

ProAge is a UK charity dedicated to creating age-inclusive workplaces and high-performing multigenerational teams.

Mike has been responsible for the establishment of the Aegon Center for Longevity and Retirement. While working at Aegon, Mike authored and published 13 reports on retirement security with insights and recommendations for governments, employers and individuals. He also developed and piloted the Silver Starters program to help people age 50+ understand if entrepreneurship is something for them and help them start their own business.

Mike worked at Aegon for 18 years, previously holding roles as Sustainability Officer and Group Internal Auditor.

Mike is based in Amsterdam, is originally from Dublin, Ireland and has worked in San Francisco, USA.

Dr Michael Devoy

Dr Michael Devoy is the Executive Vice President for  Medical Affairs and Pharmacovigilance for the Pharmaceuticals Division at Bayer AG. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Bayer AG. Dr Devoy joined the former Schering AG in 2005 as Senior Vice President of Global Medical Development and was appointed to his current position in 2014.

Dr Devoy studied Medicine and Pharmacology at University College London and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MB, BS, graduated with honors) and BSc in Pharmacology. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in London. He is also an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Drug Information Association (DIA).

Dr Devoy has extensive experience across Clinical Development and International Medical Affairs. His career in the pharmaceutical industry began when he joined Glaxo Group Research in Clinical Pharmacology.

Meral Akçay

She graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. She received an MSc in Medical Microbiology from Georgia State University, College of Arts and Sciences, Atlanta, GA , USA. Upon graduation she was awarded a Research Fellowship from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA, USA where she worked for 3 years as an international researcher. She then worked as Senior Research Specialist at Emory School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, USA until 2004. She received her PhD on influenza virus genetics from Department of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine where she served as the Coordinator of the National Influenza Reference Laboratory for 9 years. She became an Associate Professor in 2013 at the same institution.

She was a board member of European Scientists Working on Influenza (ESWI).She served as editor for WHO Influenza Bulletin. She was the founding member of  country Influenza Stakeholer Network (Grip Platformu) in Turkey and regional network, MENA-ISN.

Dr. Akçay has authored and co-authored over 50 articles published in peer reviewed journals and gave numerous talks at local and international congresses.

She joined Sanofi Pasteur in 2014 as a Regional Disease Expert on Influenza for Africa, Middle East and Eurasia Regions (MENA)

Since 2108 she is based in Lyon as Global Medical Expert/Influenza, Sanofi.

Mary Naylor

Mary D. Naylor, PH.D., RN, FAAN, is the Marian S. Ware Professor in Gerontology and Director of the NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Naylor leads a multidisciplinary team of clinical scholars and health services researchers in generating and disseminating evidence to enhance the care and outcomes of chronically ill older adults and their caregivers. She is the architect of the Transitional Care Model, a care management approach proven in multiple NIH clinical trials and foundation sponsored translational efforts to improve older adults’ experience with care and health outcomes while decreasing use of costly health services. In recognition of her significant and sustained contributions to science and health care, Naylor has received multiple honors including election to the National Academy of Medicine and AcademyHealth’s Distinguished Career Award. She is a board member of leading health and quality organizations in the U.S.

Mary Mullin

Lorna Sabbia

LORNA SABBIA is a 27-year veteran with the firm and is currently Head of Retirement & Personal Wealth Solutions at Bank of America. Lorna is responsible for the institutional retirement business which encompasses the capability set to include 401(k), Equity and Health Benefit plans for companies of all sizes, client service & management, plan participant experience, retirement research & insights and sales support.

Previously, Lorna served as Head of Managed Solutions where she led Merrill’s discretionary and non-discretionary fee-based investment platforms, the global mutual fund and ETF offerings across all channels, and relationship management with third-party investment partners. In addition, she drove the creation and implementation of Merrill Lynch One, the largest and most successful launch of an investment advisory platform in Merrill’s history.

Previously, Lorna was Head of Merrill’s Client Solutions Group, leading all Investments & Wealth Management and Wealth Structuring specialists and support desks, the Portfolio Strategies Desk, Annuity and Life Insurance Product management, in addition to the management of investment partner and insurance carrier relationships.

Lorna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Boston University. She is a member of the Bank of America’s management and operating committees, Executive Sponsor of the company’s Diverse Leader Sponsorship Program, Co-Chairs Bank of America’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Council, and serves as Market Sponsor for the Knoxville market. Lorna is a member of a number of organizations including the Women’s Leadership Board at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School, Women Against Alzheimer’s Leadership Council, and the World Dementia Council. She serves as a board member for Home Instead, which is a global leader in home care services, as well as More Than Words, a Boston-based job training and youth development program. Lorna also serves on the Executive Advisory Council of the Pat Summitt Leadership Group.

Kevin Crain

Kevin serves as executive business lead for research and insights for the Bank’s Retirement and Financial Life Benefits business. In this position, he leads a team of experienced professionals, who create and deliver research focused on workforce aging, longevity, benefits diversity and inclusion, employee financial wellness and other workplace trends. The team shares their research through research pieces and national/local market events for the Bank’s associates, advisors, bankers, individual investors, institutional clients and their employees.

Prior to this role, he served as the executive business lead for the delivery of Workplace Solutions through the Market Presidents organization, involved in the creation of the Employee Banking and Investing program and communicating workplace insights and thought leadership to the marketplace.

Previously at Bank of America, Kevin led Enterprise Financial Solutions and held leadership roles in Institutional Retirement. Including Integrated Benefits Product, Sales, Client Relationship Management and Plan Participant Solutions.

During his 40 year tenure in the financial services industry, he held a number of senior management roles with Putnam Investments, Fidelity Investments and Bankers Trust Company.

Kevin is Chair of the Age Friendly New York City Commission.

Kevin holds the Series 7, 24 and 66 registrations and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Georgetown University.

Joseph Musgrave

Joseph Musgrave has led Home and Community Care Ireland (HCCI) since 2018, bringing an essential mix of leadership and partnership to homecare in Ireland. Joseph passionately believes in an individual’s right to quality, regulated home care and that ‘There is no Place Like Home’. Over the last four years, as CEO of HCCI, Joseph has led an important public discussion about home care by highlighting the challenges the home care sector faces whilst putting a spotlight on the great work its member organisations do for their clients and the 10,000 carers who deliver care every day. At the height of the pandemic, home proved to be the safest place with infection rates rarely above 1% of the client base at any one time. In 2021, Joseph felt compelled to establish the annual HCCI Home Care Awards to recognise ‘unsung home care heroes’ – the carers who, on a daily basis, go above and beyond for our most vulnerable in society.

Each day, HCCI’s members provide vital home support services to more than 20,000 clients in their own home. Joseph is acutely aware of the significant and important role care in the home will continue to play in the lives of older and more vulnerable people for decades to come. HCCI has publicly said that Ireland is at a critical juncture when it comes to care of older people with many lessons learnt during the COVID pandemic.
Joseph’s earlier career was in Communications and Public Affairs having worked on the ‘Freedom to Marry’ campaign for the Conservative Party in the UK and as Chief of Staff for leading Communication Consultancy firm WPP Burson-Marsteller.

Esko Aho

Chairman of the Board, former Prime Minister
Mr. Aho was a Member of the Finnish Parliament for 20 years, from 1983 to 2003. He chaired the Centre Party from 1990 to 2002 and was Prime Minister of Finland 1991 – 1995. Under his leadership, Finland joined the European Union. After his political career Esko Aho served as President of the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra. From 2008 – 2012 he served as Executive Vice President for Corporate Relations and Responsibility at Nokia Corporation and was a member of its Executive Board. Furthermore he served as elected member of the Executive Board at the International Chamber of Commerce 2013 - 2019. Currently Esko Aho is Chairman of the Board of China Office of Finnish industries and Cinia Oy. In February 2019 he was appointed to the JP Morgan Advisory Council for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Esko Aho is Strategic Advisor for European Forest Institute (EFI). He also is an advisor to several international and domestic companies and communities. Esko Aho´s domestic and international activities are coordinated through his private consulting company Verbatum Oy.

David Sinclair

David has worked in policy and research on ageing and demographic change for 20 years.

David has a particular interest in older consumers, active ageing, financial services, adult vaccination, and the role of technology in an ageing society. He has a strong knowledge of UK and global ageing society issues, from healthcare to pensions and housing to transport.

David has presented on longevity and demographic change across the world (from Seoul to Singapore and Sydney to Stormont). And he has published reports on a range of topics including transport, technology, health and consumption.

David has worked as an expert for the pan-European Age Platform for 15 years and is the former Vice-Chair of the Government’s Consumer Expert Group for Digital Switchover. For ten years he chaired a London based charity (Open Age) which enables older people to sustain their physical and mental fitness, maintain active lifestyles and develop new and stimulating interests.

Prior to joining the ILC, David worked as Head of Policy at Help the Aged where he led a team of 8 policy advisors. David has also worked for environmental and disability organisations in policy and public affairs functions. His other experience includes working as a VSO volunteer in Romania, in Parliament for a Member of Parliament, and with backbench committees.

David is married, and has a 16 year old child. He runs (slowly) and cycles (a little quicker), is a retired football referee and once scored a penalty against Peter Shilton.

Brian Kaskie

Brian Kaskie is a gerontologist who has studied the intersection between aging and work for more than 20 years. He has evaluated programs concerning aging workers in California, Colorado and Iowa, collaborated with the TIAA Corporation to illuminate the challenges presented by an aging academic workforce, and directed an investigation of America’s older workforce for the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging. In collaboration with the nonprofit Transamerica Institute and with support provided by the Next50Initiative, Brian directed the Colorado Above-Fifty Employment Strategies (CAFES) study and then created the Colorado Age Inclusive Management Strategies (AIMS) platform. The AIMS platform offers information for employers to learn about the positive value to recruiting and retaining experienced employees, and offers a set of organizational assessments to identify different strategies that might be pursued. Over the past year, the AIMS platform onboarded the “first generation” of 34 Colorado employers. With so many entering their retirement years with the potential of living to 100,  today’s older Americans want and need to extend their working lives, especially those who have experienced setbacks during the COVID pandemic. Through this work, Brian Kaskie seeks to better understand what leads employers to recognize value in America’s aging workforce and move to adopt age-inclusive management strategies.

Arno Rutte

Arno Rutte is an experienced thought leader and public affairs & strategy consultant on sustainable healthcare in an aging population. He combines his previous experience as a former member of parliament and spokesperson on healthcare in The Netherlands with an extensive career in the private sector as a strategist for a not-for-profit healthcare insurance company.

Arno hosts one of the top podcasts on Smart Health in The Netherlands and is the co-author of the book 'Value-Based Healthcare: The answer to our future health changes?' His mission is to keep healthcare available and affordable for everyone in an aging population.

Andrew Steinberg

Andrew serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Honor Technology. In his role, Andrew leads Honor's finance organization, drives global strategy for Honor and for Home Instead with a financial perspective, and manages the capitalization of the business. Additionally, Andrew serves on Honor’s Executive Team.

Prior to joining Honor, Andrew spent 10 years in banking as a Managing Director at Evercore with a focus on software and health technology. Before that, he worked at Google and Booz Allen in leading operational and consulting roles, respectively. Andrew earned his MBA at The Wharton School, MS in Biomed Science Policy at Georgetown, and BS in Biomedical Engineering and Econ at Duke.

Abby Miller Levy

Abby has spent her career helping businesses and consumer brands grow as an operator, entrepreneur and advisor, most notably in the wellness sector. Prior to Primetime Partners, Abby was an executive at SoulCycle, where she oversaw business development and revenue growth outside the consumer studio business, with an emphasis on building new digital products as the Senior Vice President of Strategy & Growth. Abby has also been a Founder herself, teaming with Arianna Huffington to launch Thrive Global, a behavior change technology company focused on employee productivity and wellness. Abby served as President of Thrive Global and remains on the Thrive Board. Abby began her career at McKinsey & Company then led product development at OXO International. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School.

Surya Kolluri

Surya Kolluri leads the efforts on Thought Leadership for the Bank of America Retirement and Personal Wealth Solutions Business. In this capacity he oversees research and programs in the areas of Longevity, Retirement and ESG. He manages external relationships including the Stanford Center on Longevity, MIT AgeLab, Wharton Pension Research Council, Boston College Center for Retirement Research and the Gerontological Society of America.

Surya has spoken at a number of public forums including the Tokyo G20 Summit on Aging and Financial Inclusion, White House Conference on Aging Regional Forum in Boston, the National Governors Association summer meeting, the Dementia X forum in Stockholm, the World Health Organization Convening on Healthy Aging in Geneva, the OECD roundtable at Oxford University on the topics of Longevity, Cognitive Decline, Caregiving and Social Impact Investing. He has also engaged with students and researchers on these topics at Harvard, Brown, Yale, Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania.

Surya joined Bank of America in 2006 from Bain & Company. He spent 14 years as a strategy management consultant based out of New York city serving clients in the US and around the world. Surya has an MBA from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MS from Drexel University, Philadelphia.

Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez

Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez currently serves as New York City commissioner to the Department for the Aging. Appointed commissioner by Mayor Bill de Blasio in April 2019, Cortés-Vázquez works to advance the department’s mission to eliminate ageism, ensure the dignity and quality of life of older adults, and support caregivers. Cortés-Vázquez previously worked within the Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs as senior advisor to Mayor de Blasio. 

Prior to serving in the Mayor’s Office, Cortés-Vázquez was senior vice president of Corporate Relations and Government Affairs at EmblemHealth, where she was responsible for EmblemHealth’s relationships with key government, community, and industry stakeholders, better positioning EmblemHealth for new growth opportunities. Cortés-Vázquez was also the executive vice president for Multicultural Markets and Engagement at AARP, where she developed a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan. Before joining AARP, Cortés-Vázquez was New York State's 65th secretary of state, and the first Hispanic appointee to serve in that role.  

Kevin Crain

 Kevin Crain is head of Workplace Solutions Integration for Bank of America. In this role, he is the executive business lead for the delivery of Workplace Solutions through Bank of America's local markets, as well as communicating the bank's thought leadership and insights to the industry and marketplace. Crain has been with Bank of America for 15 years. Prior to that, he gained 35+ years of experience in the workplace and employee benefits with a number of leading institutions. Crain is co-chair of the Age Friendly NYC Commission and serves as a trustee for the Employee Benefit Research Institute. 

Catherine Collinson

Catherine Collinson is CEO and president of nonprofit Transamerica Institute and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies. Catherine is a retirement and market trends expert and champion for people who are at risk of not achieving a financially secure retirement. She oversees all research and outreach initiatives, including the Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey. Catherine also serves as executive director of the Aegon Center for Longevity and Retirement based in the Netherlands.

With two decades of retirement industry-related experience, Catherine has become a nationally recognized voice on retirement trends. She has testified before Congress on matters related to employer-sponsored retirement plans among small business, which have featured the need to raise awareness of the Saver’s Credit. Catherine is regularly cited by top media outlets on retirement-related topics, speaks at industry conferences, and authors articles in leading industry journals. She co-hosts ClearPath: Your Roadmap to Health and Wealth on WYPR, Baltimore’s NPR news station.

In 2018, Catherine was recognized as an Influencer in Aging by PBS’ Next Avenue. In 2016, she was honored with a Hero Award from the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER). In 2015, Catherine joined the Advisory Board of the Milken Institute’s Center for the Future of Aging.

Catherine is employed by Transamerica. Since joining the organization in 1995, she has held a number of positions and has identified and implemented short- and long-term strategic initiatives, including the founding of the nonprofit Transamerica Institute and its Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies.

She volunteers for a number of community organizations and currently serves as a Board Member of the Retirement Housing Foundation and a Trustee for the California Science Center Foundation. She is also an active member of the Scripps College Alumnae Association.

Linda Fried

Linda P. Fried, MD, MPH, Dean of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health since 2008, is a leader in the fields of epidemiology and geriatric medicine. Trained in cardiovascular and chronic disease epidemiology, she has dedicated her career to the science of healthy aging and creating a health span that matches our increased life expectancy, prevention of frailty, disability and cardiovascular disease, and defining how to transition to a world where greater longevity benefits people of all ages. An internationally renowned scientist, she has led seminal work in defining frailty as a new clinical syndrome and illuminating its causes. She is the co-designer and co-founder of Experience Corps, a community-based senior volunteer program that places older volunteers in public elementary schools to support both the academic success of the children, as a public health program, and the health of the volunteers.

Since 2006, Dr. Fried has served as a member of the international “Aging Society Network,” to create a roadmap to a successful society of longer lives. She has proposed the concept that it is possible to create a Third Demographic Dividend that enables society and individuals of all ages to experience the benefits of our now-longer lives through innovation in design of a life course approach to prevention, rethinking of society’s environments and developing meaningful roles for older adults. She was a member of the Council of the National Institute on Aging, served from 2006-2016 as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Aging and co-chair of WEF’s Council on Human Enhancement (2016-2018), and is an elected member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2014, she was named as among the top 1 percent “most influential scientific minds of the past decade” by Thomson-Reuters, and in 2012, by the New York Times, as one of 15 world leaders in science.

Mike Boyer

Before joining the organization, Mike held senior positions in sectors ranging from healthcare to international media and philanthropy. He has written extensively on international affairs for numerous publications and has appeared as an expert commentator on media outlets around the world. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics.

Ming-hui YANG, MD, FRCSEd(Ortho), FHKCOS, MRCS(Edin)

As a national expert in geriatric hip fractures, Dr. Yang is Secretary General of the Fragility Fracture Network – China, working together with top multi-disciplinary experts across the country to advance research and practice new models of care for geriatric othopaedics patients aimed at improving their in-hospital care and longer term quality of life.
Dr. Yang has been a surgeon in the Department of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Beijing JiShuiTan Hospital, China’s leading hospital in orthopaedics, since 2007, and became Deputy Director of the department in 2014. He obtained his Bachelor, Master and Doctor or Clinical Medicine degrees all from The Medical College of Peking University, Beijing, China, received surgical training and high orthopaedic training in Beijing JiShuiTan Hospital and in Hong Kong, and did his AO fellowship in Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada. His publications have covered a broad spectrum of subjects regarding the management / improvement of intraoperative, in-patient and continuum of care for elderly patients.

Victor J. Dzau, M.D.

Victor J. Dzau, MD is a Chinese-American doctor and academic. He serves as the President of the United States National Academy of Medicine of the United States National Academy of Sciences. He was previously the president and CEO of Duke University Medical Center. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He was the previous Chairman of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Cardiovascular Disease Advisory Committee, and he served on the Advisory Committee to the Director of NIH.

Dr. Dzau has made a significant impact on medicine through seminal research in cardiovascular medicine and genetics, his pioneering work in the discipline of vascular medicine, and his leadership in health care innovation. His seminal research laid the foundation for the development of angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, which are used globally for the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. He pioneered gene therapy for vascular disease, being the first to introduce DNA decoy molecules to block transcriptions as gene therapy in humans.

Professor DU Peng, Vice President Renmin University

Prof. Du Peng received his post-doctoral degree at the Duke University Population Research Institute, and was a visiting scholar at the Center for Aging Studies at Flinders University, Australia, and Fulbright Fellow at the Davis School of Gerontology and Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at University of Southern California in the U.S. Prof. Du served as Chair of Asia and Oceania Region, International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics from 2009 to 2013, Vice President of China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, member of the Expert Committee of Ministry of Civil Affairs, and President of Beijing Society of Gerontology.

Prof. Du has been teaching at Renmin University of China since July 1992. He was Deputy Director of Department of Population at the School of Sociology and Population Studies, Director of the Research Office, and Director of the Organization Department. He became Vice President of RUC in July 2017.

His main research fields are aging population, policy on aging issues, population and development. He has taught courses on Aging Population, Economics of Aging and Population Generality. He has also published and edited many books, including Study on the Aging Process of Chinese Population, Aging Issues and Policies in EU, Retrospect and Prospect: Studies on Chinese Elderly Care, Chinese Population in the New Century: Analysis on the 5th National Demographic Census, Study on Chinese Rural Disabled People and Social Security, Translation Collection of Contemporary Gerontology, and others.

Penny Wan, Regional VP and General Manager, JAPAC, Amgen

Penny Wan is Amgen’s vice-president and general manager of the Japan and Asia Pacific region. With over 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceuticals industry, she leads Amgen’s expansion efforts in the region. Since joining the company in 2014, she has been instrumental in building Amgen’s commercial presence across the region, ensuring that innovative medicines reach patients, payers, and physicians in these markets.

Prior to Amgen, Wan was general manager of Roche Pharma China, which became one of the fastest-growing multinational corporations in the country. She spearheaded innovative partnership solutions with government, professional and patient groups to improve access and outcomes for patients. Wan also worked in the pharmaceuticals division of Wyeth, where she held various management, marketing and commercial positions in the US, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

During her time in China, Wan served as an executive committee member of RDPAC (R&D-based Pharmaceutical Association Committee), where she led the industry-shaping efforts in biologics and served as vice-president of the Shanghai Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investments. She received the 2013 White Magnolia Memorial Award from the Shanghai municipality in recognition of her contributions to the city.

Päivi Sillanaukee, Ambassador for Health and Wellbeing of Finland, Director-General, Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health

Päivi Sillanaukee (MD, PhD, eMBA) is the thematic Ambassador for Health and Wellbeing at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland as part of a pilot program of cross-sectoral cooperation on global issues. Dr. Sillanaukee is on leave from her duty as the Director-General of the Department of Safety, Security and Health of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland.

Dr. Sillanaukee served as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry in 2012 - 2019. Between 2008 and 2012, Dr. Sillanaukee was the Director General of the Department for Social and Health Services at the Ministry. Previously, she was the Deputy Mayor and Director of Social and Health Services in the City of Tampere, Finland. Between 1990 and 2004, she held clinical and managerial positions in the Pirkanmaa Hospital District and was a member of the Tampere City Council.

Dr. Sillanaukee is a specialist in public health and management from the University of Helsinki. She has worked on policies to promote public health, social protection and gender equality in the European Union and global levels. She has represented Finland in the WHO Executive Board since May 2018 and served as its first and third Vice Chair from May 2018 to May 2020. She is the co-chair of the Alliance for Health Security Cooperation (AHSC), a member of the Steering Group of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and a member of Health Advisory Board of the UN Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL) Finland

Malcolm Johnson

Malcolm Johnson was elected Deputy Secretary-General of the ITU on 24 October 2014 and started his mandate on 1 January 2015.

From 2007 to 2014, he served as Director of ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB). In this post, he spearheaded activities in cybersecurity, climate change and accessibility. He increased the involvement of developing countries and academia in ITU’s standards activities, introduced free downloading of ITU–T Recommendations, and initiated a programme to address developing country concerns over lack of interoperability and conformity to ITU standards. He achieved a threefold increase in the activities of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector without increasing its budget. Between 2003 and 2006, Mr Johnson was International Coordinator at the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom), where he had lead responsibility for the United Kingdom in ITU and in CEPT.

From 1992 to 2003, he was Director of the United Kingdom’s Radiocommunications Agency and European Coordinator for WRC 93, WRC 95 and WRC 97.

Between 1988 and 1992, he worked in the European Commission’s Telecommunication Regulations Division, where he represented the Commission in the Council of the European Union, EU Parliament, CEPT and ITU.

Andy Cachaldora, General Manager Digital Service N. Europe, GE

Mr. Cachaldora’s started his role at GE, in 2019 and is focused on digital healthcare transformation to optimize operation and patient experience. His prior positions include Director of Managed Services South at Philips, focusing on outcomes, patient flow, quality and patient experience and Director of New Business Development, Philips, focusing on home monitoring solutions for telecare and telehealth.

Mr. Cachaldora received his MBA from the University of Brighton.

John Beard

John Beard led the World Health Organization’s work on ageing and life course for 10 years, from 2009. He now works as a change agent with academia, policymakers, and the private sector to make the world a better place in which to live and age.

He has a number of ongoing formal appointments including as Chief Advisor to EIT Health (the European Institute for Innovation and Technology); a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Human Enhancement and Longevity; visiting academic positions at universities in China and Australia; and a number of private sector initiatives related to population aging.

Prior to commencing with WHO, he was Senior Epidemiologist at the New York Academy of Medicine, a clinical professor at the University of Sydney, and manager of Public Health for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Werner Baumann

After studying economics at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Cologne, Werner Baumann began his career at Bayer in 1988. He joined the Board of Management in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer. From October 2014 until his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Management, he served as Chief Strategy and Portfolio Officer.

On May 1, 2016, Werner Baumann became Chairman of the Board of Management (CEO) of Bayer AG.

Jane Barratt

Jane M Barratt, Ph.D. is the Secretary General, International Federation on Ageing (IFA) an international non-government organisation with general consultative status with the United Nations and its agencies including formal relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Representing over 75 million older people through the membership of the IFA, Jane has direct responsibility for the corporation’s global operational performance, quality and strategic implementation, and business development.  This includes leadership at the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York, Geneva and Vienna and the WHO.

Among her many current positions Jane is a Member of Vision Academy, Director, Baycrest Health Sciences and Chair of the Education Advisory Committee, Associate Scientist, Sinai Health System, Member, Global Committee for the DR Barometer Program, and Member of the International Council for Adult Immunisation.

Phyllis Barkman Ferrell

Phyllis Ferrell and her team are responsible for Marketing and Operations worldwide. Previously Phyllis was Vice President of the Global Alzheimer’s disease team, where she and her team were responsible for the late-development and global registration of solanezumab, Amyvid and lanabecestat, including global launches and commercialization.

Phyllis received an MBA in general management and a certificate in public management from Stanford University where she graduated with Arjay Miller Scholar honors and was the Arbuckle Award recipient. Phyllis was recognized with the Rising Star Award from the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and is a member of the World Dementia Council. She is also on the Boards of Directors for the Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Stanford Associate Board of Governors; a founding member of Women Against Alzheimer’s; and a wife and mother of two very active boys (ages 16 and 12).

Ville Alijoki

Ville Alijoki is an executive producer in The Finnish Broadcasting Company Yleisradio. He is in charge of Yle Learning and Web Development for Yle Factual. He has also worked as a producer in the consumer tv-show in Yle and as a producer of the daily current affairs show in the youth radio channel YleX. He has a long background as a news editor in radio and print.

Ville is a big advocate of lifelong learning, and was responsible for Yle’s Online – at any age -campaign. The campaign’s mission was to get rid of the fear of the online and activate individuals and corporations to give support to getting everyone online.

Ville is an aspiring datajournalist and a wanna-be-coder, who hopes one day to actually build something by coding himself. He loves all things tech and gadgets.

Joseph F. Coughlin, PhD

Joseph F. Coughlin, PhD is Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology AgeLab (agelab.mit.edu). He teaches in MIT's Department of Urban Studies & Planning and the Sloan School's Advanced Management Program. Coughlin conducts research on the impact of global demographic change and technology trends on consumer behavior and business strategy. Han van Doorn

Han was born 83 years ago in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Han was also a caregiver for his wife with dementia for 5 years, with whom he has been very happily married for 50 years and with whom he had two children who now also have two children. Han's experience as a caregiver was very trying, and he realized that 80% of the long-term care in Europe is provided by informal caregivers and that almost 20% are overloaded in the Netherlands. This experience was one of the reasons for starting his Silver Starters project "Are You Okay Today" and taking the Silver Starter course in the first place. Han has a lot of hobbies and does a lot of sports to stay vital. Before founding his start-up, Han worked at IBM for 31 years in research and development.

Jeffrey L. Schwartz, Senior Consulting Partner, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Dr. Mitchell Psotka, MD, PhD

Mitchell Psotka, MD, PhD is Director of the Infiltrative Cardiomyopathy Center at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, Virginia. He also serves as Associate Director of Heart Failure Site-Based Research. He is a heart failure and transplant cardiologist and clinical trialist who specializes in cardiomyopathies and pharmacologic as well as mechanical circulatory support, including for right ventricular failure and pulmonary hypertension.
He received his medical degree and Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and completed his residency and fellowship training in internal medicine, cardiology, advanced heart failure and transplant, pulmonary hypertension, and clinical research at the University of California San Francisco.

Jean-Luc Eiselé, PhD

Jean-Luc Eiselé, PhD, has worked in medical professional association management for 11 years. He earned a MSc in Natural Sciences from Lausanne University, Switzerland. He received a PhD in Microbiology from Basel University, Switzerland. Part of his PhD work was conducted at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. After completing a post-doc at the Institute Pasteur in Paris, France, he was offered a permanent position. In 1999, Jean-Luc joined the European Respiratory Society (ERS) in Lausanne as Scientific and Educational Activities Manager. In 2001, he was promoted to Deputy Executive Director and in 2007 appointed Executive Director of ERS. Jean-Luc has extensive international experience in the field of association management, public health and advocacy. Previous roles include Director of Les Ligues de la santé, which focuses on primary prevention and health promotion, and Executive Director of the FDI World Dental Federation. In this latter role, he was responsible for developing global and national advocacy activities, and successfully launching and developing World Oral Health Day. Jean Luc Eiselé was appointed World Heart Federation’s Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 May 2017.

Professor Ian Philp, MD, CBE

For the past 30 years, Professor Ian Philp has been developing, refining and enhancing the EasyCare methodology of person-centred care. In 2017, combining the best of his data, knowledge and insights with an enhanced assessment tool and a digitised platform, Age Care Technologies was created to advance the health, independence and well-being of older people everywhere.

Prof. Ian Philp is the Professor of Global Ageing at the University of Stirling, UK, and an Associate of GE Health Partners and a Consultant to the World Health Organisation.

Ian holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and was a practicing physician for 35 years in the UK National Health Service. As Professor of Health Care for Older People at the University of Sheffield, he led teams which won the UK hospital team of the year in the care of older people and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education for research into improving the quality of life of older people.

Ian has ten years’ experience as an Executive Medical Director of hospital and community services and from 2000-8 he was the National Clinical Director for Older People in England.

Mary J. Cronin

Mary J. Cronin, Ph.D. is a Research Professor at the Carroll School of Management, Boston College and President of 4Q Catalyst. Dr. Cronin’s latest book, Starting UP Over 50: Building a Resilient and Profitable Small Business presents inspirational stories of the challenges, successes, and lessons learned by entrepreneurs who started their companies over the age of 50, together with advice from experts in business formation, finance, marketing, social media, sales, and human resources.  Staring UP Over 50 will be published in December 2020.

Dr. Cronin has already authored 11 books on digital strategy, innovation, and corporate sustainability including the international best sellers Doing Business on the Internet (1994), Smart Products, Smarter Services (2010), and Managing for Social Impact: Innovations in Responsible Enterprise (2018).  She is a board member of the Encore Boston Network and The Boston Authors Club, and a member of the Executive Committee Founders Over Fifty-Five.

Mike Mansfield

Since 2015, Mike has been responsible for delivering and further developing Aegon's annual Retirement Readiness Survey and other publications. Mike has also been responsible for the establishment of the Aegon Center for Longevity and Retirement, a collaboration of experts assembled by Aegon with representation from Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The mission of the Center is to conduct research, educate the public and inform a global dialogue on trends, issues and opportunities surrounding longevity, population aging, and retirement security.

Mike has been with Aegon for 17 years where he has previously worked as Sustainability Officer and Group Internal Auditor. Prior to working for Aegon, Mike worked for PwC and Wells Fargo Bank.

Kuzumi Nishikawa

His former responsibilities included those of director of the Healthcare Industries Division at the Commerce and Service Industry Policy Group at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from 2017- 2020. Before that position he served as Deputy Director of the Defense Policy Division at the Japan Defense Agency (Ministry of Defense) from 2004 to 2006, and of the Multilateral Trade System Department of METI from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2009, he served as Principal Deputy Director of the Small and Medium Size Enterprises Finance Division of METI, and of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division at the Minister’s Secretariat also at METI from 2009 to 2012. From 2012 to 2013, he was Director for Policy Planning (Growth Strategy) at the Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau of METI, and from 2013 to 2016, the Executive Director of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Singapore as well as Special Advisor to the Minister of METI. From 2016 to 2017, he was Director of Trade Strategy at the Trade Policy Bureau, and of the Global Economic Policy Unit at the Minister’s Secretariat at METI.

Mr. Nishikawa graduated with a BA from the faculty of Law of the University of Tokyo in 1996, an LLM from Northwestern University’s School of Law in 2003, and obtained another LLM in International Study from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004. He was also Attorney at Law in New York State, USA.

Sara Smolley

David P. Ryan

Dave leads the global Health & Life Sciences business unit at Intel that focuses on digital transformation from edge-to-cloud in order to make precision,value-based care a reality.His customers are the manufacturers who build life sciences instruments, medical equipment, clinical systems, compute appliances and devices used by research centers, hospitals, clinics, residential care settings and the home. Dave has served on the boards of Consumer Technology Association Health & Fitness Division, HIMSS’ Personal Connected Health Alliance,the Global Coalition on Aging and the Alliance for Connected Care. Dave is an outspoken advocate worldwide on the challenges and opportunities in an aging world–including United Nations, OECD, USA Capitol Hill, Milken, IFA, IAGG events and ministerial meetings across Asia & the EU. His call for a new social contract across ages was published in the AARP International Journal. He founded Intel’s China Health unit and was elected to the American Chamber of Commerce’s China Health Cooperation Program Steering Committee. He also led the build-out of Intel’s worldwide Age Friendly Initiative on aging including engagement across APEC to OECD, WHO and G-20. He previously served as the commercial GM of Intel’s BioChip Operation. Angeli Möller

Dr. Angeli Möller has two roles at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, she leads the artificial intelligence workstream and heads Global Data Assets. The Global Data Assets team ensure the Bayer pharmaceutical division has both the analytical platform and the data it needs to bring value to patients and health care professionals. Before joining Bayer she worked as a data scientist for translation medicine at ThomsonReuters, and as a researcher at Cancer Research UK and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine. As keen proponent of pre-competitive collaboration she also sits on the executive committee of the Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAIH) and on the investment committee of the Pistoia Alliance. Julia Wilkins

Julia gained degrees in Biochemistry and Oncology from Liverpool University before joining the pharmaceutical industry in 1991. After fulfilling several NHS liaison roles and gaining a Diploma in Business Management and PRINCE2 Practitioner certification, Julia co-founded the health informatics agency Harvey Walsh Ltd in 2003. The company grew steadily working with over 80 organisations from both the private and public sectors, before the company’s sale in 2012 to Open Heath Ltd. In 2017, following 5 years with Open Health, Julia joined Imperial College Health Partners (ICHP) as the head of data and analytics. ICHP works in collaboration with their health partners to generate evidence-based change to improve patient outcomes and system efficiencies. Having specialist expertise in healthcare data sets and the software application for visualisation and machine learning, Julia is focused on the adoption and spread of innovation working with NHS England, NHS Rightcare, NHS Improvement, NHS Trusts nationally and private companies.

Ursula Wynhoven

Ursula is an international lawyer with 24 years’ experience. She joined the ITU in 2017 as its Representative to the UN. The ITU is the UN’s specialized agency for information & communication technologies with the mission to connect the world. Ursula leads UN relations and represents the agency and its Secretary-General at the UN in NY. She heads the ITU’s UN Liaison Office and works at the intersection of technology and development, promoting digital inclusion and the use of ICTs for sustainable development. Previously, Ursula spent 14 years with the UN Global Compact, the UN’s corporate sustainability initiative. Her last position was Chief, Social Sustainability, Governance & Legal and member of the Executive Committee. Ursula led the UNGC's work on human rights & decent work, gender equality, poverty & inequality, peace, anti-corruption & the rule of law. Ursula also led legal affairs and oversaw policy development & implementation of the UNGC’s integrity measures. Ursula began working with the UNGC in 2002 and played an active role in helping to grow the initiative to more than 13,000 signatories in more than 160 countries with a full roster of corporate sustainability workstreams. Ursula's tenure included a 6 month loan as Senior Advisor, Business & Human Rights to the UN’s Human Rights Office. Ursula has LLMs from Columbia Law School, where she was a Human Rights Fellow, and Monash Law School, and Bachelor’s degrees in Law, Economics, and Letters.

Grace Whiting

C. Grace Whiting, J.D., is the President and Chief Executive Officer at the Alliance, where she continues her tenure from previous roles including Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Strategic Partnerships. Ms. Whiting led the launch of the Caregiving in the U.S. 2015 report with AARP and directed the first national study of rare disease caregiving with Global Genes. She has contributed to several national reports on caregiving, including Caregiving in the U.S. 2015 with AARP, Cancer Caregiving in the U.S. with the National Cancer Institute and Cancer Support Community, and Dementia Caregiving in the U.S. with the Alzheimer’s Association. She has spoken on caregiving at national and international conferences, including the 7th International Carers Conference in Adelaide, Australia and at three national summits at the National Institutes of Health. Ms. Whiting has also served as a resource to major media on the topic of caregiving and aging, including C-SPAN, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, and Kiplinger’s Retirement Report.

Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen

Mr. Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen took up his duties as Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD in January 2019.  His portfolio includes the strategic direction of OECD policy on Science, Technology and Innovation; Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, Migration, Health; and Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs’, Regions & Cities. He also oversees the OECD Centre for Skills and the newly established Well-Being, Inclusion, Sustainability and Equal Opportunity Centre (WISE). Jointly with the Secretary-General, Mr Knudsen transformed the OECD Executive Committee in Special Session into the Global Strategy Group to have a strategic forum to discuss issues of global relevance and to engage with key partners. He chaired the Global Strategy Group from 2013 to 2017.

Until the end of 2018, Mr. Knudsen was Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark. In this capacity, he has served numerous Danish Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Development Cooperation, Trade and European Affairs since 2013. Prior to this, he served as Sherpa and Chief Diplomatic Advisor to two Danish Prime Ministers on Security Policy, EU and Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Mr. Knudsen was appointed Ambassador in 2006. He served as Ambassador to the OECD and UNESCO in Paris (2008-2009). Prior to this, he was Press Officer and Principal Private Secretary to a number of Danish Ministers for Foreign Affairs.

Besides his diplomatic career, which includes postings in London (2003-2004), Washington (1998-2000)  and Moscow (1997), he briefly served as Group Director for International Policy in Vodafone, London (2013).

He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen (1994), where he also acted as external lecturer, and he has published various papers and publications on Asia, WTO, trade policy and globalisation.

Judith A. Salerno, MD, MS; President, The New York Academy of Medicine

Judith A. Salerno, MD, MS is the President of The New York Academy of Medicine and is leading its strategic vision to advance health equity.

A physician executive and one of the nation’s pre-eminent leaders in health and health care, Dr. Salerno most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Susan G. Komen ™, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, with over $2.9 billion invested in research, community health and advocacy since 1982. During her tenure from 2013 to 2016, she oversaw global operations, guided the development of a new strategic direction and re-branding for the organization, and directed the launch of an innovative $27 million, 10-city health equity initiative.

She joined Komen from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), now the National Academy of Medicine, where she was the Leonard D. Schaeffer Executive Officer, serving as executive director and chief operating officer. While at IOM, she led its partnership with HBO to create an Emmy-nominated documentary series in 2013 on America’s obesity epidemic, The Weight of the Nation, and co-authored a companion book that examined the crisis and proposed solutions.

Previously, Dr. Salerno served as Deputy Director of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She oversaw the Institute’s research into aging, including research on Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, frailty and function in late life, and the social, behavioral and demographic aspects of aging. In that role, she designed public-private initiatives to address aging stereotypes, novel approaches to support training of new investigators in aging, and programs to communicate health and research advances to the public.

A board-certified physician in internal medicine, Dr. Salerno earned her MD degree from Harvard Medical School in 1985 and a Master of Science degree in Health Policy from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1976.

Cindy Hounsell

Cindy Hounsell is President and Founder of the Washington D.C. based Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER), an attorney and retirement expert, Ms. Hounsell has been widely quoted in various media and publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes/PBS Next Avenue, Barrons, U.S. News and World Report.   

 Ms. Hounsell serves as Director of the National Resource Center on Women and Retirement – she  provides technical assistance to national organizations and trains leaders and grassroots advocates. In addition, she has testified before Congress and various government agencies, served as a delegate for a number of White House Summits and Aging Conferences and authored many chapters, columns, articles, op-eds, papers and booklets focused on women’s retirement issues.  

Ms. Hounsell was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Plan Sponsor Council of America in 2018 and named an Influencer in Aging by PBS- Next Avenue.  The Influencers in Aging list highlights thought leaders, researchers, experts, executives and everyday people who are redefining what it means to grow older in America.  

Terry Fulmer, President, John A. Hartford Foundation

Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the President of The John A. Hartford Foundation in New York City, a foundation dedicated to improving the care of older adults. Established in 1929, the Foundation has a current endowment of more than half a billion dollars. She serves as the chief strategist for the Foundation and was recently recognized for her leadership as one of the top 50 Influencers in Aging by PBS’s Next Avenue, the premier digital publication dedicated to covering issues for older Americans. Dr. Fulmer is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. She previously served as Distinguished Professor and Dean of Health Sciences at Northeastern University.

Dr. Fulmer is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading expert in geriatrics and is best known for conceptualization and development of the national NICHE program and research on the topic of elder abuse and neglect, work that has been funded by the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Nursing Research. Her recent effort with the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative in partnership with IHI is a potential game changer for how we think about care for older adults.

She is a Trustee for the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, Springer Publishing Company, the Bassett Healthcare System, and is co-chair of the National Academy of Medicine’s Forum on Aging, Disability, and Independence. She previously served as the Chair of the National Advisory Committee for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows Program, and held board positions at Skidmore College, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Geriatrics and Gerontology Advisory Committee for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Advisory Board for Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Nursing. She is the recipient of prestigious awards, including the 2017 American Society on Aging Rosalie S. Wolf Award for her body of work on elder abuse. In 2016, she received the 2016 Award for Exceptional Service to The New York Academy of Medicine for her distinguished service on the Academy’s Board of Trustees, including as vice-chair and for her active engagement in the policy work of the Academy, especially its Age-friendly NYC initiative. She has been honored with invitations for named lectureships from noted universities.

Chad Brough

Chad Brough has worked in healthcare for more than 27 years.  His leadership experience began in community hospitals and has included work in large health systems and academic medical centers.  Today, Chad is the Vice President of Healthcare Transformation at Home Instead Senior Care, the world’s largest home care company headquartered in Omaha.
Chad graduated from Hanover College with a degree in Business Administration.  In 1999, he completed an MBA at Indiana University.
From 2005-2006, Brough served on the Malcolm Baldrige Board of Examiners.  The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive.
Brough is a native of Salem, IN.  Since 2016, Brough has resided in Omaha, NE.  Since moving to Omaha, Brough has served on the Maha Music Festival Board of Directors and founded F3Omaha, a men’s fitness group focused on invigorating community leadership.

Nick Padula

Nick Padula is the Vice President, Health & Human Services for Philips Healthcare. He is responsible for helping government partners and providers to evolve into a completely connected, clinically integrated healthcare organization with patient-centric solutions that help remove boundaries and enable systems, devices and people across the health continuum to share information easily and securely when and where they need it.
Relative to extending care beyond hospital walls and population health management, he recently served as V.P. of Philips Home Monitoring business where he co-created new Artificial Intelligence based, predictive analytics engines enabling health systems to better monitor and care for patients, by combining actionable insights with wearable devices and monitoring.
Mr. Padula is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and completed post-baccalaureate studies at Cornell University, School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Harvard, School of Business, Cambridge, Massachusetts with an emphasis on Leading Change and Organizational Renewal.

Melissa Mitchell

Melissa Gong Mitchell is Executive Director of the Global Coalition on Aging, the leading business voice on aging policy and strategy. She also serves as Managing Director at High Lantern Group, a strategic communications consulting firm. GCOA uniquely brings together global corporations across industry sectors to promote good public policy and market-based solutions centered on healthy and active aging.  In her role, Melissa is responsible for the operations and management of the coalition, internal and external communication strategies, and member and stakeholder outreach and development, including fostering relationships and aligning partners across industry, academia, the NGO community, advocacy organizations, governments and global institutions. Richard Marshall

Richard Marshall is Business Development Director for CareClever, the makers of Cutii, the companion robot for seniors at risk of being lost to isolation and loneliness. Richard has brought new technologies to market for 21 years. This includes 10 years as CEO of TenasiTech, an advanced manufacturing company working in healthcare, electronics and other applications. Previously Richard was a venture capital investor in health technology, engineering and manufacturing startups, with Uniseed Ventures. Richard previously enjoyed a technical career in software engineering including with Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank. Richard has an MBA (Honors) from Oxford University, and Bachelors of Engineering and Applied Science from the Queensland University of Technology.

Yumiko Murakami

Since Yumiko joined OECD in 2013 as the head of OECD Tokyo Centre, she has been at the forefront of policy discussions between OECD and governments, businesses and academia in Japan and Asia, covering a wide range of economic policy issues.  She has been leading discussions with various stake holders in Japan and Asia, particularly in the areas of Corporate Governance, tax guidelines, gender diversity, education, international trade and innovation. Prior to joining the OECD, Yumiko held a number of leadership positions as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse. Yumiko has diverse professional experiences, ranging from banking in New York and London to UN Peace Keep Operations in Cambodia.  Yumiko has an MBA from Harvard University, MA from Stanford University and BA from Sophia University.  She sits on the Japan Advisory Board of Harvard Business School as well as several advisory committees of the Japanese Government. Malcolm Johnson

Malcolm Johnson was elected Deputy Secretary-General of the ITU on 24 October 2014 and started his mandate on 1 January 2015.

From 2007 to 2014, he served as Director of ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB). In this post, he spearheaded activities in cybersecurity, climate change and accessibility. He increased the involvement of developing countries and academia in ITU’s standards activities, introduced free downloading of ITU–T Recommendations, and initiated a programme to address developing-country concerns over lack of interoperability and conformity to ITU standards. He achieved a threefold increase in the activities of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector without increasing its budget. Between 2003 and 2006, Mr Johnson was International Coordinator at the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom), where he had lead responsibility for the United Kingdom in ITU and in CEPT.

From 1992 to 2003, he was Director of the United Kingdom’s Radiocommunications Agency and European Coordinator for WRC‑93, WRC‑95 and WRC‑97.

Between 1988 and 1992, he worked in the European Commission’s Telecommunication Regulations Division, where he represented the Commission in the Council of the European Union, EU Parliament, CEPT and ITU.

Born in Trallwng, Wales, United Kingdom, on 19 June 1947, Mr Johnson graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff, with MSc and BSc (1st class honours) degrees. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and an Academician of the International Telecommunication Academy. He is fluent in English and French, and has some knowledge of Spanish.

Dr. Don Wright

Dr. Don Wright has served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health and Director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) since January 2012. In this capacity, he leads coordination and policy development for public health and prevention activities within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As Director of ODPHP, Dr. Wright provides leadership for the Healthy People Initiative, a framework for public health priorities and actions comprised of a comprehensive set of ten-year national health objectives; oversees the development of evidence-based health policies such as the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and supports the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition.

Reinier Koppelaar

Reinier Koppelaar is Program Director at the Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports of the Program on Ageing in Place (Langer Thuis). The program aims to strengthen conditions for a good quality of life for elderly persons living independently. The program focuses on 3 conditions: integrated healthcare delivery on the community level, supporting informal caregivers, and adequate housing conditions.

The Program is carried out under the Director-General of Long-term Care and has been adopted by 20 national associations representing municipalities, health insurance companies, housing corporations, healthcare providers and professionals, elderly people, informal caregivers, private enterprises, etc.

Before, Mr Koppelaar worked as head of the Strategy and research team at the Directorate for Macro-Economic and Labour Affairs of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports. Before that he was Policy Coordinator for Market Regulation at the same Ministry. From 2010-2014 he served as Counsellor for Health, Welfare and Sports at the Netherlands Embassy in Beijing, P.R. China. Under the Balkenende-IV administration (2007-2010), he served as Political Adviser to the Vice-Prime Minister and minister for Youth and Families, Mr André Rouvoet. He studied International Economics & Economic Geography at Utrecht University.

Kari Kohtamäki

Mr. Kohtamäki leads commercial operations in the field of health technologies at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. This role involves assessing future trends and bridging the gap between scientific research and business needs, as well as creating international partnership networks for VTT. Mr. Kohtamäki has an extensive business background from various management positions in global medical device companies, most recently at GE Healthcare. His international experience also includes an assignment at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, focusing on industrial development in African countries. Mr. Kohtamäki received his master’s degree in medical technology from Tampere University of Technology.

Katarina Ivanković Knežević

In the past, Katarina has served as a State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Pensions of Croatia. Over the past 20 years, her duties have been linked to the promotion of human rights and gender equality, social policy and employment.

She joined the European Commission last year. She is now responsible for the modernisation of social security systems and social policy, supporting social and labour market inclusion. Dr Amy Khor was appointed Senior Minister of State for Health and Environment & Water Resources on 1 Oct 2015.

Prior to her current appointment, she was Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower from 1 Sep 2013.

Before her promotion to Senior Minister of State, Dr Khor was Minister of State for Health from 21 May 2011 and concurrently appointed the Minister of State for Manpower from 1 Aug 2012.

Previous appointments she held included Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in May 2006 and subsequently, Minister of State for Environment and Water Resources in November 2010. She was also the Mayor of South West District from Aug 2004 to May 2014.

Dr Khor was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2001 General Elections and was re-elected for a fourth term as a Member of Parliament in the 2015 General Elections.

She holds a PhD in Land Management from the University of Reading, UK.

Piia-Noora Kauppi

Piia-Noora Kauppi (born 1975, LL.M), has served as Managing Director of Finance Finland since 2009. She is a member of the Board of Directors & Chairman of the Audit Committee, UPM Kymmene plc, board member of Sulava Oy and Finnish Financial Ombudsman Bureau. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Helsinki Deaconess Institute and HSE Foundation as well as World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.

Between 1999 and 2008, she was a member of the European Parliament and Head of the Finnish Delegation in the EPP-ED Group from 2004 to 2008. From 2010 to 2011, she served as President of the European Banking Industry Committee EBIC 2010 and between 2014 and 2015 as Chairman of the European Banking Federation Executive Committee 2014-2015.

Liisa-Maria Voipio-Pulkki

Dr Liisa-Maria Voipio-Pulkki serves as the Director General of Strategic Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. She joined the Ministry in 2010 as the Director of the Health Care Group. Previously she was employed as the Senior Medical Adviser of the Finnish Association of Local and Regional Authorities in 2004-2009, Chief of Emergency and Acute Care of the Helsinki University Hospital District in 2000-2004 and as a specialist and Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the University of Turku, Finland.

She is a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology and has published over 100 original papers in cardiovascular medicine. Since 2014 she has been actively involved in the Finnish Government´s “Health Growth Strategy” of personalized medicine and national competence clusters. In 2017 she was elected to chair the Steering Committee of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, a WHO hosted partnership supporting evidence-informed health policy making. She resides in Helsinki and is actively involved in the preparations of the Finnish EU Presidency during the second half of 2019.

Sinikka Salo

Dr Sinikka Salo, Ph.D. DDS, Specialist in Telemedice and eHealth, Leader of Change, Permanent Secretary`s Cabinet, Ministry of Social Affairs and Health , Finnish Government

Dr. Salo serves as the Leader of Change at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Her mission is to enhance implementation of the national health growth strategy and health ecosystems as well as international co-operation. Dr. Salo is supporting Finnish EU-presidency 2019 and several events related to that. Dr. Salo was serving as the Leader of Change for the national reform of health and social services during 2016-2019. Previously Dr. Salo has lead international missions in Japan and Kosovo. Dr. Salo has also served as the Deputy Mayor of City of Oulu, Chief Dental Officer at City of Kemi and researcher at the University of Oulu. Dr Salo is a sought-after lecturer both in Finland and abroad, and she has published more than 70 scientific or popular articles.

Tapani Piha

Tapani Piha worked in the European Commission from 2001 and served as Head of Unit for 14 years until August 2018. During this time he was responsible for digital transformation in healthcare, building digital cross-border exchange for e-prescriptions and patient data, setting up the European Reference Networks for rare diseases, implementation of the Directive on patients’ rights in cross-border health care, developing policies on Health Technology Assessment (HTA), health strategy, health information, expert advice for health systems, health law, health research coordination, and worked also Head of Unit for Human Resources.

After completing a medical degree in 1980, he studied epidemiology, interventions on health behaviours, health promotion and cardiovascular disease. He served the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and coordinated Finland’s EU policies in health in 1995-2001. At the WHO Regional Office for Europe in 1989-94 he was responsible for the Action Plan for a Tobacco-Free Europe.

Jaana Leikas

Dr Leikas is Principal Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. She holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor in Cognitive Science at Jyväskylä University. She is responsible for leading research and customer projects in technology ethics, responsible innovation and foresight. In this context, she is particularly interested in how emerging technologies can best serve the society as well as the quality of life and changing life goals of citizens, especially into advanced age. She has long track record in human-driven design thinking as well as social evolution and acceptance of technology, and has participated extensively in national expert groups for e.g. various ministries. Current research includes study on ethics and acceptability of AI and software robotics (for the Prime Minister’s Office) and research on the changing role of public authority and the potential for steering society (for the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland). Dr. Leikas is a member of the board of the International Society for Gerontechnology.

Dr. Jonathan Cylus

Dr. Jonathan Cylus is the Coordinator of the London Hubs of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, based at both the London School of Economics and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His main research is on health systems, focusing primarily on health financing policy, health economics and health system performance. He has worked on these topics in support of a number of countries, including Finland, as well as with the European Commission, OECD and WHO.

Prior to joining the Observatory, Jon was an economist at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the United States.

Alex Wynaendts

Alex has spent over 30 years in international finance and insurance and was appointed CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board in 2008. Educated in France, he began his career with ABN AMRO bank in 1984, working in the bank’s private banking and investment banking operations in Amsterdam and London. Prior to being appointed as CEO, Alex held a number of different positions at Aegon, beginning in 1997 in Group Business Development. In particular, he expanded Aegon’s presence in new markets in Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. Following his appointment as CEO, Alex led Aegon through the economic crisis, ensuring the company maintained its strong capital position. He has subsequently redefined Aegon’s strategy, making its purpose of helping people take responsibility for their financial future central to the business. Central to this has been the digital transformation of the company, which has enabled it to engage with millions of new and existing customers.

Ninie Wang

In 2004, Ninie founded Pinetree Care Group, focusing on innovation and talent development in the home healthcare services space. She is a Standing Committee Member of the China Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Ninie has published papers on the restorative, integrated care service model and has helped draft senior care industry standards and policy papers in China. Ninie is a member of WHO Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing and World Economic Forum Global Future Council on Health and Healthcare. She has a BA Econ. from UIBE, China, MBA from INSEAD, and is a student of Johns Hopkins-Tsinghua University joint DrPH program. Her roles also included WEF Young Global Leader (2013-2018), China Fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (since 2016) and the first France-China Young Leaders Program (2013).

George Vradenburg

George is Chairman of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s, which he co-founded in October 2010. He was named by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to serve on the Advisory Council on Research, Care, and Services established by the National Alzheimer’s Project Act and has testified before Congress about the global Alzheimer’s pandemic. He is a member of the World Dementia Council. He and UsAgainstAlzheimer’s co-convene both the Leaders Engaged on Alzheimer’s Disease (LEAD) Coalition and the Global CEO Initiative on Alzheimer’s Disease.

With his wife Trish (1946-2017), George has long been a dedicated member of Washington’s civic and philanthropic community. George served as Chairman of The Phillips Collection for 13 years and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Economic Club of Washington. He has served in senior executive and legal positions at CBS, FOX and AOL/Time Warner. George and Trish published Tikkun Magazine for 10 years.

Jan Vapaavuori

After an extensive career in Finnish national politics, Mr. Jan Vapaavuori became the Mayor of Helsinki in 2017 after winning the election with a record number of support. He represents the National Coalition Party, center-right moderately liberal movement.  As his first task, he set forth a city strategy, laying ground for an ambitious four-year agenda. The strategy champions Helsinki as the “most functional city in the world” with a special focus on sustainable growth, digitalization, global problem solving, creativity and the best possible conditions for happy everyday city life.

Mr. Vapaavuori is Finland’s former Minister of Economic Affairs. As Minister of Housing, he started the Housing First program that resulted in a decrease of long-term homelessness by fifty percent. From 2003 to 2015 Mr. Vapaavuori was a Member of Parliament. During his term as MP, he served as chair of the party’s parliamentary group. He has worked also as Vice President of the European Investment Bank.

Located in Boston, Massachusetts, Sushant is a Senior Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble, currently leading the Male Blades & Razors segment for Gillette North America. Sushant is also the Co-Founder of Gillette TREO, the World’s First Razor Specifically Designed for Assisting Shaving. In 2018, TREO was named one of Time Magazine’s Innovation of the Year as well as one of the Top 5 Inventions that Can Change the World by the International Business Times. TREO is also the recipient of 7 Cannes Lions Awards. P&G’s core purpose and mission is ‘Touching Lives, Improving Life.’ TREO was born out of understanding the caregiver’s difficulties associated with grooming their loved ones. As P&G serves out its mission, Sushant designed a product to meet the unique needs of this consumer. He believes TREO is the first step towards defining a new category within the CPG industry; to serve caregivers and those being cared for.

Vappu Taipale

Vappu Taipale holds a specialty in child and adolescent psychiatry. She served as Finland’s minister of health and then minister of social affairs. Dr. Taipale has been director general of National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health in Finland (Stakes) and has held chairmanships of academic and technological research bodies nationally and within the European Union. She was a member and chair of the United Nations University Council 1999-2007. After retirement she is involved in the WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Promotion, Prevention and Policies. She was co-president of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) 2008 – 2012. She is currently Member of the Board of Trustees, HelpAge International 2016 –

Vappu Taipale was a founding member of  International Society for Gerontechnology and its first president. She is Honorary President of ISG. The Taipale Family has 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Yasuhiro Suzuki

Dr. Suzuki was born in 1959. He graduated from School of Medicine, Keio University (MD) in 1984 and trained as neurologist. He received PhD for public health from Keio University in 1996 and two Master’s degrees from the Harvard School of Public Health (MPH in 1989 & MSc in 1990).

Dr. Suzuki has a professional career at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), Japan for 30 years covering infectious diseases, mental health, environmental health, food safety, international health, ageing & health, and health research policy. He also worked for the World Health Organization as Executive Director for Social Change & Mental Health, later for Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals (covering vaccines, immunization and biologicals) from 1998 to 2002.

He is currently the Chief Medical & Global Health Officer, Vice-Minister for Health in MHLW from July 2017

Timo Strandberg

Timo Strandberg is MD, PhD, Professor of geriatric medicine, University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Hospital Specialist in geriatric medicine and in internal medicine. Member of the Executive Committee (2019 – 2023) of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics for the European Region and the Chair of its Clinical Section. Past President, European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS)

Janine Small

Janine Small is the Regional President of Pfizer Vaccines in the International Developed Markets (IDM). In her role she focuses on ensuring millions more lives are protected by vaccines, and aims to educate people about the value of life course vaccination. Janine brings more than 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Since joining Pfizer in 1988, she has worked in a number of diverse markets, including Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Italy and Japan. She has undertaken a range of roles ranging from medical representative, marketing manager in the UK, country manager in Eastern-European Countries to Regional President of Pfizer Essential Health (PEH) in Asia-Pacific and later Europe.

Janine has also been a Board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in several countries, and sits on the board of Nova Medica and the US-Russia Business Council. Janine earned a BSc in Chemistry from Leeds University in the United Kingdom.

Päivi Sillanaukee

Päivi SILLANAUKEE (MD, PhD, eMBA) is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland since 2012. Between 2008 and 2012, Dr Sillanaukee was the Director General of the Department for Social and Health Services at the Ministry. Previously, she was the Deputy Mayor and Director of Social and Health Services in the City of Tampere, Finland. Between 1990 and 2004, she held clinical and managerial positions in the Pirkanmaa Hospital District and was a member of the Tampere City Council.

Dr Sillanaukee is a specialist in public health and management from the University of Helsinki. She has worked on policies to promote public health, social protection and gender equality in the European Union and global levels. She has represented Finland in the WHO Executive Board since May 2018 and is currently serving as its first Vice Chair. She is the co-chair of the Alliance for Health Security Cooperation (AHSC) and a member of the Steering Group of the Global Health Security Agenda.

Jane Shaw

Jane Shaw is Principal of Harris Manchester College, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Professor of the History of Religion at the University of Oxford. Before returning to Oxford in 2018, she was Dean for Religious Life and Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University. She is the author of several books on the history of religion. Harris Manchester College is the only college in the University of Oxford dedicated to mature students (both undergraduate and graduate) and Professor Shaw has a particular interest in the place of higher education across the whole of our lives, especially as we live longer, and as part of a strategy for healthy and active ageing. Her interest in how we approach and plan for later life was inspired by her childhood, growing up in a community (founded in 1249) of 150 people over the age of 65, in Norwich, England.

Martin Seychell

Mr Seychell is a graduate in chemistry and pharmaceutical technology. He occupied the post of Head of Directorate at the Malta Standards Authority between 2001 and 2006. He has been responsible for the implementation of a number of EU directives in the areas of risk assessment, food safety, chemicals and cosmetic products legislation, and has actively participated in negotiations on major technical proposals such as the new chemicals legislation, REACH and in screening processes in the areas of free movement of goods, environment and agriculture during the process leading to Malta’s accession to the EU.

He was appointed Deputy Director General for Health and Consumers at the European Commission in March 2011.  Since 2014, he has been Deputy Director-General for Health in the Health and Food Safety Directorate-General (SANTE), responsible for directorates dealing with public health and health systems and products.

Lorna Sabbia is a 25-year veteran with the firm and is currently Head of Retirement & Personal Wealth Solutions at Bank of America.  Lorna is responsible for both the institutional and personal retirement capability set to include 401(k), Equity Health Benefit plans for companies of all sizes as well as college savings, personal retirement planning, retirement income, insurance and estate planning for individuals.

Prior to this role, Lorna served as Head of Managed Solutions where she led the discretionary and non-discretionary fee-based invest platforms, the global mutual fund and the ETF offerings across all channels, and relationship management with third-party investment partners. In addition, she drove the creation and implementation of Merrill Lynch One, the largest and most successful launch of an investment advisory platform in Bank of America’s history.

Previous to this position, Lorna was Head of the Client Solutions Group, leading all Investments & Wealth Management and Wealth Structuring specialists and support desks, the Portfolio Strategies Desk, Annuity and Life Insurance Product management, in addition to the management of investment partner and insurance carrier relationships.

Before joining Client Solutions Group, Lorna was head of Sales and Marketing for Merrill Lynch Trust Company (now part of Bank of America Private Bank), and from 2002 to 2006, she served as National Sales Manager for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.  She began her career at the company as a specialist for nearly eight years in two divisions, New York and New England, across three different disciplines.

Dave Ryan

Dave leads the global Health & Life Sciences business unit at Intel that focuses on digital transformation from edge-to-cloud in order to make precision, value-based care a reality.  Dave is on the boards of Consumer Technology Association Health & Fitness Division, HIMSS’ Personal Connected Health Alliance, the Global Coalition on Aging and the Alliance for Connected Care.

Dave is an advocate on the challenges and opportunities in an aging world – including United Nations, OECD, USA Capitol Hill, Milken, IFA, IAGG events and ministerial meetings across Asia & the EU.  His call for a new social contract across ages was published in the AARP International Journal.  He founded Intel’s China Health unit and was elected to the American Chamber of Commerce’s China Health Cooperation Program Steering Committee.  He also spearheaded Intel’s worldwide Age Friendly Initiative on aging.  Dave holds an M.B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and is a Wharton Fellow.

Aisling Ryan

Aisling Ryan is Managing Partner and Global Consulting Principal at The Corporate Practice at WPP. A seasoned strategist, Aisling founded The Corporate Practice with the belief that impact is accelerated by partnership between corporates, government and NGOs. She consults across multiple sectors and has over 25 years experience in global strategy and communications. Aisling also heads up WPP’s relationship with the United Nations with a focus on the SDGs and climate change.

In 2018, she pioneered The People’s Seat for the United Nations and UNFCCC, providing an unprecedented opportunity for people around the world to have their voices directly heard by world leaders with #TakeYourSeat. The campaign recently won a Gold and Silver Cannes lion, the Grand Prix at WARC Awards, a D&AD Pencil and was honoured at the UN SDG Awards. In 2016, Aisling led the launch of #JoinTheHerd – a global lobby platform created to stop the ivory trade.

Olli Rehn

Dr Olli Rehn is Governor of the Bank of Finland and member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank as of 12 July 2018. He is also Governor of the International Monetary Fund for Finland.

Before joining the Bank in 2017 Mr Rehn served as Minister of Economic Affairs in Prime Minister Sipilä’s Government in 2015–2016. Mr Rehn was Vice-President of the European Commission in 2011–2014. As a Member of the European Commission, he was responsible for Enlargement in 2004–2010 and for Economic and Monetary Affairs in 2010-2014.

Since Spring 2017 Mr Rehn has also been Vice-Chair of the Governance Committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA). Mr Rehn holds a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in international political economy from the University of Oxford (1996).

Jussi-Pekka Rantanen

Jussi-Pekka Rantanen is Senior News Presenter and Producer at the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. On top of anchoring flagship news bulletins, he has worked on several other programs like concerts, opera productions, current affairs programs and TV series. Rantanen is also known for his work as a commentator of the Independence Day Reception of the President of Finland – traditionally the most watched broadcast program of the year.

In addition to his work at Yle, Jussi-Pekka Rantanen has regularly hosted and moderated events, seminars and forums in Finland and abroad (EBU, Unesco, EU, NewsXchange, Council of Europe, NHK, Prix Europa).

Rantanen has studied journalism and mass communication as a major at the University of Tampere and graduated (MSc) in 2000. He has also studied film and television at the University of Texas in Austin.

Manoj Pradhan

Manoj Pradhan is Chief Economist at the independent macroeconomic research firm Talking Heads, which he founded in 2016, analyzing global macroeconomic issues and financial markets.

He was previously Managing Director at Morgan Stanley where he led the Global economics team. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2005, he served on the faculty of George Washington University and the State University of New York. He has a Ph.D. in economics from George Washington University and a Masters in Finance from the London Business School.

Željko Plazonić

Dr Željko Plazonić is State Secretary of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. He holds an MD degree with a specialty in internal medicine and subspecialty in cardiology from the University of Rijeka and has completed postgraduate studies in clinical pathophysiology. Prior to assuming his duty at the Ministry of Health, Dr Plazonić was Coordinator of endovascular medicine at the Clinical hospital Rijeka, Head of Department of Invasive and Interventional Cardiology (Clinic for Internal Medicine), Head of Department of Cardiology Laboratory (Internal Clinic Sušak), Head of Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology, and Head of Cardiology Department III. As one of the pioneers of heart surgery innovation in Croatia, Dr Plazonić performed many surgery procedures within his field of expertise, and published numerous scientific and professional papers, articles and summaries in internationally indexed periodicals.

Kirsi Pimiä

Ms Pimiä has been Non-Discrimination Ombudsman in Finland since May 2015. The task of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is to promote equality and to prevent discrimination. The competence of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman covers all the other discrimination except discrimination based on gender. Discrimination is forbidden for example on the grounds of age, ethnic origin, language, health, disability and sexual orientation. The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is an autonomous and independent authority.

Since 2017 Ms Pimiä has also been Member of Equinet Executive Board (the European Network of Equality Bodies). Ms Pimiä holds a degree in Master of Laws, her previous positions include Director in the Ministry of Justice and Head of Unit in the EU Affairs Department at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Aino-Kaisa Pekonen

Aino-Kaisa Pekonen is Finland’s Minister of Social Affairs and Health. She has served as Member of Parliament since 2011, focusing in particular on questions regarding social and health policy. Pekonen is a trained Practical Nurse for Social and Health Care and she used to work as a housing counsellor and practical nurse before being elected as Member of Parliament. She has served as Vice-Chair of the Left Alliance and chaired the party’s Parliamentary Group. Pekonen has also been active in many civil society tasks, for example as Chair of the Board of the HIV Foundation.

Anne-Sophie Parent

Since 2002 Ms. Parent is Secretary General of AGE Platform Europe (AGE), a network of 110 organisations representing some 40 million seniors across Europe in 27 EU Member States. AGE aims to promote older persons’ rights at EU and UN level and voice the interests of the 200 million inhabitants aged 50+ who live in the EU.

Ms. Parent is a member of the High-Level Group on Pensions and sits in the Euro Retail Payment Board of the European Central Bank. She also chairs the Financial Services Users’ Group set up by the European Commission, and the Advisory Board of the Assisted Ambient Living Joint Programme.

Since 2016 Ms. Parent is also Secretary General of the European Covenant on Demographic Change, a large network bringing together subnational public authorities, non-for-profit and profit actors who wish to join forces to promote age-friendly environments in support to active and healthy ageing in cooperation with WHO.

Anders Olauson

Anders Olauson was involved in the founding of the Agrenska Centre in 1989. He served as director until 2004 and since then has been chairman. He is responsible for establishing The Agrenska Virtual International Academy, a research centre for rare disorders. In 2003 The Eesti Agrenska Foundation was inaugurated, and Anders is serving as Chairman of the Council since then.

Anders is particularly concerned with the impact of rare conditions on children and their families. His work involves contact with both national and regional legislative bodies on the subject of rare disorders. He is also in contact with representatives of hospitals, education and labor unions as well as other key players in the field of rare diseases.

Anders is past member of the board of Eurordis, and was president from 1999 to 2001. He represented it as a member of the board of the European Patients’ Forum (EPF) until 2016. He has been president of EPF since June 2005 until 2016, when he was appointed Honorary President for EPF.

Agrenska was in 2005 appointed member of ECOSOC within United Nations, with “special consultative status”. Agrenska became full member of CoNGO within the UN in 2014, and started with EURORDIS as a partner Committee for Rare Diseases (CfRD) in 2015. Anders is elected Chairman since then for CfRD.

Between 2006 and 2012, Anders was a member of the advisory group for Health Research within DG Research. Since 2013/14 until 2018 Anders was appointed member of the Horizon 2020 Advisory group for Societal Challenge -Configuration ‘Health, demographic change and well-being.

The Swedish Government appointed Anders to serve as a member of the Advisory Council at The National Board of Health and Welfare from 2008 – 2014.

Anders Olauson received HM The King of Sweden’s Medal for his valuable contributions in the field of disability. Anders was presented with the King’s medal 8th size, with the Seraphim Ribbon at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the 28th of January 2010. He received City of Gothenburg’s medal for outstanding service for the city. Anders was presented the medal in June 4th 2014. In February 2017, Anders received EURORDIS Lifetime Achievement Award, for his vision and goals for the rare disease community and to honour all that Anders has done for the rare disease community.

In March 2018, Anders was elected board member of CoNGO.

Alana Officer

Alana’s academic background spans Podiatric Medicine, Applied Science (Exercise and Sports Science) and Public Health.

Prior to joining WHO, Alana held a range of clinical and managerial positions working on health, disability, rehabilitation and development in Africa, Europe, South Asia, the Middle East and the Western Pacific. After 8 years of leading WHO’s work on disability, Alana joined the Ageing and Life course team in 2014 to lead the development of the World Report on Ageing and Health (2015).

She currently oversees the development of the Decade of Healthy Ageing 2020-2030 and coordinates the organizations work on age-friendly environments including the Global Network on Age-friendly Cities and Communities as well as the Global Campaign to Combat Ageism.

Ryoji Noritake

Mr. Ryoji Noritake leads Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI), a Tokyo-based independent and non-profit health policy think tank. He also serves as a pro-bono consultant for Project HOPE. Through HOPE and HGPI, he has led health system strengthening projects in the Asia-Pacific region and engaged in US Navy’s medical humanitarian projects. His focus is a multi-sectoral approach for health issues such as public-private partnerships and civil-military coordination. He was a Working Group Member for the World Health Organization’s “Expert Consultation on Impact Assessment as a tool for Multisectoral Action on Health” in 2012.

Mr. Noritake is a graduate of Keio University’s Faculty of Policy Management and holds a MSc in Medical Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is currently a Visiting Scholar at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, a member of Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Policy Discussion Roundtable for Super Ageing Society.

Kazumi Nishikawa

Britt Monti

Britt is a Creative Leader at IKEA of Sweden in the Range & Design department, responsible for developing a range called OMTÄNKSAM that is based on the needs of the aging population. IKEA is a global home furnishing company with 427 stores on 52 markets and over 200.000 co-workers, founded 75 years ago by Ingvar Kamprad.

Britt’s assignment is to monitor customer needs from a home furnishing perspective. In this role, she identifies, leads and supports new range initiatives on a global level. Britt has been working at IKEA for over 15 years in various positions. Her background is within marketing and retail.

Ripley Martin

Ripley Martin recognized for his leadership in strategy efforts across the professional healthcare domain, serves as the Business Leader for Aging & Caregiving at Philips. Ripley is currently focused on delivering health services to ease and enrich the aging journey for seniors and their caregivers.

Ripley has held various leadership roles at Philips spanning healthcare informatics and services, patient monitoring and imaging systems. Prior to Philips, Ripley served as Principal in the Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) Healthcare, Industrial Goods and Strategy practices, where his work centered on value creation from disruptive technologies and business models, notably in the medical device sector.

Ripley earned his MBA with high distinction from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and his BA in Economics from Colby College.

David Marsh

David is the General Secretary of the Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) – a global organisation dedicated to better prevention and management of fractures caused by a combination of osteoporosis and falls. Both of these are strongly age-related and fragility fractures are therefore increasing in frequency to an alarming extent, especially in emerging economies. He is a retired professor of orthopaedics, who played a leading role in developing ‘orthogeriatric’ co-management of patients with fragility fractures in the UK, including secondary prevention to reduce the future incidence of hip fractures in particular, which rob older people of their independence. That experience led him to initiate the FFN as its founding president. The FFN, in partnership with sister organisations,  published last year a Call to Action, which spells out what needs to be done globally to meet this huge challenge to healthy ageing.

Marco Marsella

Marco Marsella is Head of the “eHealth, Well-being, and Ageing” Unit in the Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) of the European Commission. From 2016 to June 2018, Marco Marsella was leading the Unit responsible for the Web Accessibility Directive, Safer Internet and Language Technologies. He has worked on policy development, innovation and research implementation in the areas of digital content, technologies for learning, e-inclusion and assistive technologies.

Robert Madelin

From 2004-2016, Robert held a series of senior leadership positions at the European Commission: as Senior Adviser for Innovation, as Director General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CONNECT) and as Director General for Health and Consumer Policy (SANCO). Prior to that, Robert was for 20 years a negotiator in international trade and investment, first for the UK, and then for the EU. Robert served notably in the Cabinet of European Commission Vice-President Leon Brittan. Robert studied at Magdalen College, Oxford and at the French Civil Service College (ENA). Robert’s other current major engagement is as Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations. He is also an Honorary Doctor of the University of Edinburgh, an alumnus Policy Fellow of Cambridge University’s Centre for Science and Policy and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. Robert is the author of ‘Opportunity Now: Europe’s mission to innovate’ (2016).

Niku Määttänen

Niku Määttänen holds a PhD in Economics from University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He is currently research director at the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA) and adjunct professor at Aalto University in Helsinki, where he teaches regularly.

Niku’s ambition is to do rigorous research that is relevant for policy making. His research has focused on fiscal policy, housing markets and social security. He has also led many collaborative research projects, including a recent Horizon 2020 project on fiscal coordination in the EU (http://www.firstrun.eu).

Patrick Kamphuis, Ph.D.

Patrick Kamphuis is senior medical director and heads worldwide medical and scientific affairs for the adult medical nutrition portfolio at Nutricia, the specialized nutrition business of Danone, headquartered in Amsterdam. Patrick started his career in research in 2001 at Danone Nutricia Research as a scientist leading various scientific and clinical projects in different disease areas, researching the role and impact of nutrition in managing various paediatric conditions as well as Alzheimer’s Disease.

He recently served as Global R&D Director Adult Therapeutic Areas and Life Sciences, where Patrick was responsible for innovation and (pre)clinical research in the therapeutic areas frailty, oncology, critical care, dysphagia and stroke as well as Alzheimer’s Disease. Patrick has a PhD in Neurosciences and is the author of peer-reviewed publications in the fields of neurosciences, geriatrics, immunology, endocrinology and paediatrics.

Zsuzsanna Jakab

Pentti Itkonen

In his capacity as the Chief Executive Officer of The South Karelia Social and Health Care District in Finland, Dr. Itkonen leads a community-wide integrated organisation that employs over 5,000 people. He manages acute care, primary care, social well-being services and services for elderly people in the district.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Itkonen was the former Development Manager in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in Finland. He played a pivotal role in facilitating structural and managerial changes at the national level, following the flow of information and communication technologies into social and healthcare organisations. He was the responsible director to develop the e-prescribing and e- archieving system in Finland. His portfolio also includes directing the North Karelia Hospital District in Finland and managing specialised healthcare in the region.

Mr Itkonen received his degrees from the University of Tampere and the University of Kuopio in Finland. In addition, he has written several articles on structural changes of healthcare in the society.

Wiking Husberg

Wiking Husberg is an international consultant on occupational safety and health (OSH).

He started working with OSH in 1973 as a safety engineer with the Finnish Government in the National Board of Labour protection. He has cooperated with the Nordic and European countries concerning machine safety, standardisation and market surveillance. Consultancy work has taken him in the 80’ies to the Eastern European countries, which now has joined the EU. He was Chief Technical Advisor with an ILO OSH project in English-speaking Africa and Team Leader with the European Union/TACIS in Russia in the 90’ies. He spent nine years as the Senior occupational safety and health specialist in Moscow with the ILO Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia before returning to work as a Ministerial Advisor on OSH in the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Dept of OSH in 2012-2017.

In his role as CEO, Jeff oversees strategic planning and advocacy for the Home Instead Senior Care network, provides leadership on key initiatives and manages the day-to-day operations of the Global Headquarters.

Jeff obtained his law degree from Creighton University in 1994 and worked in litigation for 4 years. He then joined Home Instead Senior Care as a Franchise Development Manager when the organization consisted of 125 franchises. Today, Home Instead Senior Care provides more than 90 million hours of care annually through more than 1,200 franchises offices in 14 countries.

Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D.

Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D. is CEO of the Global Coalition on Aging, Managing Partner at High Lantern Group, and a Fellow at Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College. Mike is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and from 2010 until 2013, was Adjunct Senior Fellow with a focus on population aging. Mike was the recipient of the 2012 Fred D. Thompson Award from the American Federation for Aging Research. He sits on the Boards of the Foreign Policy Association, Business Council for International Understanding, American Skin Association, American Federation for Aging Research and Emigrant Savings Bank.

Mike was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Ageing. Prior to founding GCOA, he led International Public Affairs and Public Policy at Pfizer for 30 years. Mike began his career as Legislative Assistant to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and during this time served as a Visiting Scholar at Brookings Institution.

Martti Hetemäki

Martti Hetemäki is Permanent State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance of Finland since 2013 for a 7-year-term. He accessed the position after a long and distinguished career in the Ministry, including 10 years as a Permanent State Under-Secretary. He chaired the Sub-Committee on Statistics of the European Union’s Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) in 2003-2013 and served as a Director of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).

Martti Hetemäki’s career includes several board memberships. He is the Chairman of the Finnish National Fund Sitra and Vice-Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Authority. Other board activities cover areas such as security and defence, technology, health and social economy.

Martti Hetemäki holds a PhD in economics, Licentiate degree in economics and statistics from University of Helsinki as well as a Bachelor of Science in economics, University of Hull.

Jussi Herlin

Jussi Herlin works and learns at KONE Corporation – a global leader in People Flow solutions – in two roles: Vice Chairman of the Board; and Senior Business Analyst in the Strategy and Market Intelligence team. Prior to KONE Jussi worked in Accenture Finland’s strategy department. In 2012 he graduated as M.Sc.(Econ.) in Management and International Business Communication from the Aalto University School of Business.

Jussi is endlessly fascinated by artificial intelligence, urbanization, leadership, intersectional feminism, impactful communication and behavioral sciences. His free time is spent with his family that includes two preschool-aged children. With any spare moments he also likes CrossFit, hunting, reading, video games and singing.

Sara Härmälä

Sara Härmälä is the Director of Upgraded, a non-governmental, nonprofit association for health and wellbeing startups and innovations. Upgraded’s goal is to help health and wellbeing startups and innovations succeed by helping them find relevant opportunities, connections and support, and also to help develop the ecosystem to the direction where startup innovations have an established role in the society as a source of health and wellbeing solutions.

Prior to Upgraded Sara worked in a growth company as a COO and acting MD, and she also has years of experience from different kinds of associations and leadership positions. She holds an MA from the University of Helsinki in Finnish and Scandinavian History and is currently working on her MBA in Service Design and Innovation.

Hans Groth

Dr. med. Hans Groth, MBA, is the Chairman of the Board of the World Demographic & Aging Forum (WDA Forum) and Member of the Board of Directors of Rehabilitation Clinic Bad Zurzach AG. Since 2009, Dr. Groth has been a guest lecturer at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) / Switzerland with the topic “Megatrend: Global Demographic Change”. From 2009 – 2013 he was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Population Dynamics. He worked with Pfizer Inc. for twenty-fiver years and has comprehensive experience in over 30 healthcare markets including Western Europe, Eastern Europe, USA and Canada. For the past eighteen years, Dr. Groth has been studying the interaction between global demographic change, economic development, wealth and societal stability.

Esther George

Esther George is president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. As president of the Kansas City Fed, she leads a workforce of close to 2,000 employees at offices in Kansas City, Omaha, Denver and Oklahoma City. The Kansas City Fed is responsible for conducting monetary policy, providing financial services to depository institutions, and supervising nearly 1,000 banking organizations within a seven-state region that includes western Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and northern New Mexico.

In 2019, President George serves as a voting member on the Federal Reserve’s policymaking body, the Federal Open Market Committee. In this role, she represents the Tenth Federal Reserve District in policy deliberations and provides a perspective based on three decades of experience as a banking supervisor. President George also leads the Federal Reserve System’s effort to modernize the U.S. payments system to enhance the security and speed of transactions across the banking system.

Christoffer Forssell

Christoffer Forssell is a Localization and Accessibility expert and currently Heads the Localization, Translation and Accessibility services at the Finnish Public Broadcasting Company Yle. He has been working in the broadcasting media for over 15 years, with a background in the music industry. More recently, Christoffer has focused on improving and developing Yle’s accessibility services as well as looking for new ways to better serve Yle’s minority audiences. He is the founder and chairman of Yle’s Accessibility Experts Group and the “Yle Council”, consisting of Yle customers with disabilities.

Christoffer is also involved in several projects researching how to utilize speech technology and automated audiovisual analysis in different segments of the media industry. He is skilled in broadcasting and VOD process development as well as agile leadership methods.

Jisella Dolan

Jisella Dolan serves as Global Advocacy Officer for Home Instead Senior Care®, the world’s leading provider of home care services for seniors. In her role, Jisella advances global brand initiatives and leads the advocacy division, which advocates for elderly people and their families, quality care, and aging and home care policy around the world. Specifically, she heads up Home Instead’s Legal team, Brand Standards department, Policy and Government Affairs arm, and Thought Leadership platform. She is also the Diversity and Inclusion lead.

She currently serves as Home Instead’s Strategy Officer for the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is on the WEF’s Global Council for the Future of Health and Health Care System. Jisella is Home Instead’s representative to the Global Coalition on Aging and serves on the Home Care Association of America’s Strategy Committee. She is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council for Women Against Alzheimer’s.

Jisella earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska and was a partner at a global law firm. The challenges working family caregivers face hits home for Jisella, as she is a mom who also provides caregiving support.

Annette Dixon

Annette Dixon is the Vice President for Human Development at the World Bank Group, overseeing the Global Practices for education; health, nutrition, and population; gender; and social protection and jobs. She was previously Vice President for the South Asia Region. She joined the Bank in 1999 as Sector Director to Human Development in the ECA region. Annette is a long-standing champion on gender issues. In South Asia, she has set a target to deliver 100 percent gender-informed projects and interventions, going beyond the global corporate requirements. Under her leadership, the regional priority for South Asia is to support countries to improve Women’s Labor Force Participation.

Prior to joining the World Bank, Annette Dixon worked for the Government of New Zealand as Chief Executive of the Ministry of Youth Affairs. Born in New Zealand, Annette holds a Master of Public Policy. She was also awarded the Harkness Fellowship in Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University in 1994-1995.

Dr. Mike Devoy

Dr Michael Devoy is the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Pharmacovigilance for the Pharmaceuticals Division at Bayer AG. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Bayer AG. Dr Devoy joined the former Schering AG in 2005 as Senior Vice President of Global Medical Development and was appointed to his current position in 2014.

Dr Devoy studied Medicine and Pharmacology at University College London and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MB, BS). He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in London. Dr Devoy has extensive experience across Clinical Development and International Medical Affairs. His career in the pharmaceutical industry began when he joined Glaxo Group Research in Clinical Pharmacology.

He currently directs a function focused on aligning business objectives with a myriad of patient advocacy and professional organizations in diverse therapeutic areas, to bring value to the business, the organizations, and to patients.

His background in practice in hospital, community and institutional care pharmacy provides unique perspective on healthcare system issues.  He has expertise in advocacy and alliance development, public policy, issues management, strategy and business planning, and opinion leader and trade relations.

Cara Courage

Dr Cara Courage is a placemaking academic and practitioner, and Head of Tate Exchange, Tate’s space and programme dedicated to socially engaged art. Cara specialises in socially engaged art practice, her PhD focusing on this in the context of placemaking. She has a 20-year career in the arts largely working with museums and galleries, arts in the public realm and public engagement with the built environment, working as a consultant and project manager for public and private initiatives and her own projects. Cara is author of Arts in Place: The Arts, the Urban and Social Practice (Routledge, 2017), and the co-editor of Creative Placemaking and Beyond (Routledge, 2018). At Tate Exchange, Cara has developed its specialism in creative aging through its curation and programming and across international practice and research networks, in the museum and arts sectors.

Camilla Cavendish

Camilla Cavendish is the author of “Extra Time: Ten Lessons for an Ageing World”, published by Harper Collins in May 2019. She is a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School, and former Head of the UK Prime Minister’s Policy Unit under David Cameron. An award-winning writer and broadcaster, she writes a weekly Saturday oped column for the Financial Times. She has been a Non-Executive Director of the Care Quality Commission, and a McKinsey consultant. She chairs the non-profit Frontline, and sits in the House of Lords as an independent peer: Baroness Cavendish of Little Venice.

Andy Burnham

Andy Burnham was elected as Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017. Responsible for shaping the future of Greater Manchester, Andy’s priorities include ending rough sleeping, transforming Greater Manchester into one of the greenest city regions in Europe, and making Greater Manchester a great place to live, get on, and grow old.

Before being elected Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy was MP for Leigh from 2001. In government, Andy has held Ministerial positions at the Home Office, Department of Health and the Treasury. In 2008 he became Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, before returning to Health as Secretary of State in 2009. In opposition, Andy has served as Shadow Education Secretary, Shadow Health Secretary and Shadow Home Secretary.

Andy lives in Leigh, Greater Manchester, with his wife and three children. He is a keen supporter of Everton FC.

Axel Börsch-Supan, Ph.D.

Axel Börsch-Supan holds a diploma in mathematics from Bonn, Germany, and a Ph.D. in economics from M.I.T. He was Assistant Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University 1984-1989, then Professor for Macroeconomics and Public Policy at Mannheim University.

Since 2011, he directs the Munich Center for the Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich and holds a professorship at the Technical University of Munich. He leads the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), is member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Berlin-Brandenburg and the Austrian Academy of Sciences; and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Mass. His policy consulting includes: Council of Advisors to the German Economics Ministry (chair 2004-08), two German Pension Reform Commissions, ministries in Germany, other governments in EU, EU Commission, OECD, and World Bank.

John Beard

John Beard led the World Health Organization’s work on ageing and life course for 10 years, from 2009. He now works as a change agent with academia, policymakers, and the private sector to make the world a better place in which to live and age.

He has a number of ongoing formal appointments including as Chief Advisor to EIT Health (the European Institute for Innovation and Technology); a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Human Enhancement and Longevity; visiting academic positions at universities in China and Australia; and a number of private sector initiatives related to population aging.

Prior to commencing with WHO, he was Senior Epidemiologist at the New York Academy of Medicine, a clinical professor at the University of Sydney, and manager of Public Health for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Werner Baumann

After studying economics at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Cologne, Werner Baumann began his career at Bayer in 1988. He joined the Board of Management in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer. From October 2014 until his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Management, he served as Chief Strategy and Portfolio Officer.

On May 1, 2016, Werner Baumann became Chairman of the Board of Management (CEO) of Bayer AG.

Jane Barratt

Jane M Barratt, Ph.D. is the Secretary General, International Federation on Ageing (IFA) an international non-government organisation with general consultative status with the United Nations and its agencies including formal relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Representing over 75 million older people through the membership of the IFA, Jane has direct responsibility for the corporation’s global operational performance, quality and strategic implementation, and business development.  This includes leadership at the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York, Geneva and Vienna and the WHO.

Among her many current positions Jane is a Member of Vision Academy, Director, Baycrest Health Sciences and Chair of the Education Advisory Committee, Associate Scientist, Sinai Health System, Member, Global Committee for the DR Barometer Program, and Member of the International Council for Adult Immunisation.

Phyllis Barkman Ferrell

Phyllis Ferrell and her team are responsible for Marketing and Operations worldwide. Previously Phyllis was Vice President of the Global Alzheimer’s disease team, where she and her team were responsible for the late-development and global registration of solanezumab, Amyvid and lanabecestat, including global launches and commercialization.

Phyllis received an MBA in general management and a certificate in public management from Stanford University where she graduated with Arjay Miller Scholar honors and was the Arbuckle Award recipient. Phyllis was recognized with the Rising Star Award from the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and is a member of the World Dementia Council. She is also on the Boards of Directors for the Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Stanford Associate Board of Governors; a founding member of Women Against Alzheimer’s; and a wife and mother of two very active boys (ages 16 and 12).

Ville Alijoki

Ville Alijoki is an executive producer in The Finnish Broadcasting Company Yleisradio. He is in charge of Yle Learning and Web Development for Yle Factual. He has also worked as a producer in the consumer tv-show in Yle and as a producer of the daily current affairs show in the youth radio channel YleX. He has a long background as a news editor in radio and print.

Ville is a big advocate of lifelong learning, and was responsible for Yle’s Online – at any age -campaign. The campaign’s mission was to get rid of the fear of the online and activate individuals and corporations to give support to getting everyone online.

Ville is an aspiring datajournalist and a wanna-be-coder, who hopes one day to actually build something by coding himself. He loves all things tech and gadgets.

Esko Aho

Esko Aho is Chairman of the Board of Cinia Oy and Adven Group and on the Supervisory Board of Sberbank, Russia’s biggest bank. He is a member of Europe, Middle East and Africa Advisory Council at JP Morgan.

Mr. Aho was a Member of the Finnish Parliament from 1983 to 2003 where he chaired the Centre Party from 1990 to 2002 and was elected Prime Minister at the age of 36, making him the youngest PM in Finland’s history. Under his leadership, Finland joined the European Union. After his political career, Mr. Aho served as President of the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and then led Corporate Relations and Responsibility at Nokia. Mr. Aho serves as elected member of the Executive Board at the International Chamber of Commerce. He is an invited member of Club de Madrid, an independent organization of former heads of state and government dedicated to strengthening democracy.
