Álvaro S. Pereira currently serves as the Chief Economist and G20 Finance Deputy at the OECD. In this role, he oversees the Economics Department, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the international political economy agenda. Pereira is responsible for identifying ways the OECD can promote policies to enhance long-term economic performance in member and partner countries. His previous roles at the OECD include Director of the Policy Studies Branch and the Country Studies Branch. Before joining the OECD, Pereira was the Minister for Economy and Employment in Portugal from 2011 to 2013. His academic career includes positions as a professor at Simon Fraser University in Canada and lecturer roles at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and the University of York, UK.
