Ms Pimiä has been Non-Discrimination Ombudsman in Finland since May 2015. The task of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is to promote equality and to prevent discrimination. The competence of the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman covers all the other discrimination except discrimination based on gender. Discrimination is forbidden for example on the grounds of age, ethnic origin, language, health, disability and sexual orientation. The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is an autonomous and independent authority.
Since 2017 Ms Pimiä has also been Member of Equinet Executive Board (the European Network of Equality Bodies). Ms Pimiä holds a degree in Master of Laws, her previous positions include Director in the Ministry of Justice and Head of Unit in the EU Affairs Department at the Prime Minister’s Office.
