Mikiro Suga was appointed the Head of Health and Welfare at the Japan External Trade Organization’s New York Office in November 2019. JETRO is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. Mikiro is conducting research on health care system in U.S. He is committed to strengthen U.S.-Japan relations on healthcare and promoting mutual understanding.
Since joining the Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare Japan in 2006, Mikiro has served in several positions including the Health Policy Bureau, the Insurance Bureau and the Minister’s Secretariat. He was involved in drafting bills and the Comprehensive Drug Reinforcement Strategy and setting a target of the volume share of generic drugs to at least 80%. He will return to the MHLW in 2023 and be involved in developing policies in Japan.
