Navid Hanif

Mr. Navid Hanif is the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and serves as the UN sous Sherpa to the G20 finance and main tracks. Joining UNDESA in 2001, he has held various significant roles, including Senior PolicyAdviser in the Division for Sustainable Development, Chief of the PolicyCoordination Branch, and Director for the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) support and Financing for Sustainable Development Office. He was the inaugural head of the DESA Strategic Planning Unit in 2010. Mr. Hanif has also been Principal Officer in the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, Vice-Chair of the UN High-Level Committee on Programming (HLCP), and Co-Coordinator of the UN team on repositioning the UN Development System, leading to major reforms in 2018. He has published several articles on financing and investing in the SDGs. He holds an MIA in International Political Economy from Columbia University and an M.A. in English Literature from Government College University, Lahore.
